There is an air of desperation to move bad debts and the associated off the Hong Kong bank's balance sheets into a new entity to prevent the assets being sold on the open market and effectively acting as price discovery for the wider market [which would show the whole system is fücked with bad debts.... And a reckoning in Hong Kong will spread to the US and then world-wide.

I rate Van Elle a good buy sub 40p; they have kept the dividend at 1.2p [yes, a paltry 3% yield but something] and have been diversifying their market offer [a purchase of a piling contractor in Scotland helps with Grid work there] including potentially getting into defence construction by the recent acquisition of the concrete piling assets of VolkerGround Engineering [who are a major player in defence construction] in conjunction with signing a 'strategic partnership' with them.

There is an Investor Meet presentation at 15h30 today which I will be watching... Their asset utilisation rates have been dismal over the last few years so any increase in business will quickly leverage their fixed costs. No debt to any placing must be a remote possibility and downside looks limited. I am expecting a bounce on any positive trading figures and their orderbook is sitting 50% up at £52.7m vs £35.3 at the same time last year.

I might be biased as I have a few of their shares...

Interesting tie-up, VolkerWessels UK are a player in the UK defence construction industry [£500m in delivered projects] and this brings a new sector to Van Elle which should lead to higher rig utilisation rates. Short term future looks promising; hopefully the Investor Meet presentation will touch on this tomorrow.
