It is as bad as the video portrays; even the official stats are terrible, and they are manipulated numbers, manipulated by people who know a failure to deliver can result in the death penalty on corruption charges.
Watch out for rising stock levels in companies reporting here / the US or EU. And early widespread sales in the lead up to the festive season. I think many companies are sitting on too much stock ordered much earlier this year when prolonged shipping times made buyers order earlier than they would normally. Now with a recession looming and too much stock, smaller orders will be placed later next year and Chinese factories will shutter from lack of demand.
It would not surprise me if Xi declares he has beaten Covid in time to save the next Chinese New Year in an attempt to kick a bit of life into the local economy, but that will just cause millions of elderly deaths. Or, if unrest around the housing crisis increases, he may even clamp down further, using Covid as an excuse. Yes - fence sitting as it could go either way. But things are going to change...
