The CONservatives think tax dodging is a game, not a crime. When I started working for HMRC they had a large team of criminal investigators; then the Vandals got into power in 2010 and they dismantled the courts and used the lack of capacity to cut criminal investigators and investigations. When I resigned in 2014 they were down to 4 criminal investigators!

Expect to see a tick up in due course but increases in enforcement activity will take years to flow through into stats as it takes time to train criminal investigators, more time to open and investigate cases and then even more time to complete a prosecution through the courts [especially when there are so many other priorities for a stressed judicial system badly in need of investment when GOV is strapped for cash].

The arrangements put in place for the 'Swiss Leaks' were a disgrace as it allowed people with criminal proceeds in Swiss accounts to repatriate funds and pay a small civil penalty which was a small price to pay for legalised money laundering.
