My gut feel is they probably can’t afford the vessel , it’s around £50k a day rental and doubt they would get much change from £400k for the operation!
The Vessel Southern Ocean is showing as due in Nigg later, Currently in Aberdeen. She is a DP vessel with heavy crane so might be coming to get the fourth turbine....
Some good news on Newport Planning Website today, It looks as if the proposals for the second BESS storage site at Uskmouth will not require an Environmental Impact Assesment, Should speed up planning permission considerably.
Hopefully, It was there yesterday too. Still keeping an eye out for a heavy lift ship at Nigg. On LinkedIn one of their Project managers said they were about to install a DAS unit on the site, This is a protection system for the subsea cable that detects any movement / vibrations etc. Not sure if this involves any divers though!
Good spot sma43, as the company give us no info we have to do our own research ! Hopefully they are gearing up for the fourth turbine which should give us around 1400MwH per month
Site produced 5460 ROC or 1092 MWh in November, This should equate to roughly 8.75GWH for the year 2022 providing December had no outages. Interestingly the ROC certificate holder name has changed from Smartest Energy Ltd in previous months to Meygen Limited for the November one
If we were doing it Pro Rota with BESS 1 agreement which is £40M over the next 30 years and £11M in first 18 months for 230MW BESS. Then perhaps we are looking at £20M over next 30 years and £5M in first 18 months?
Depends if they are going to bulldozer the whole place down. They have gone for the edges of the site at the moment . I would say 3 or 4 more would be possible if it was a flat site, or perhaps some Solar Energy but I think that would be less return and it’s not a huge site so probably not viable.
The current type of underwater turbines they are using require pretty deep water, Not something achievable around Usk and the Severn Estuary. But perhaps they are not tied to that design with the sell off of the turbine division?
Latest figures released show 5286 ROC and 1057 MwH for the site in October. Higher output as a result of the third turbine coming online, Best generating month since Sep 2020. The buyer is actually listed as Smartest Energy Ltd
