Its chief executive Phil Kirk says it bought a big chunk of Shell in what was a "transformative deal".

[Oil giant Harbour Energy vows to step up North Sea activity as it returns to black]

The company said it would also increase activity on the Tolmount gas field in the UK southern North Sea. Linda Cook, chief executive of Harbour Energy, said: “The first half saw us deliver positive free cash flow and execute a significant transaction, whilst retaining a robust balance sheet.

“The extended maintenance programmes which impacted our production have completed, drilling activity has returned to pre-Covid-19 levels and the merger integration is progressing well, all underpinning strong future cash flow generation.

“We remain committed to producing oil and gas safely and responsibly, including our aim to achieve net zero by 2035.” The giant Catcher field in the North Sea, in which Harbour holds a 50 per cent equity stake, contributed to 12,000 boepd of the company’s production during the first half.

The company said well delivery “remains in excess of the FPSO nameplate capacity and the gas reinjection trials are having a positive impact on oil production rates.

Gazprom Declines to Book More Gas Transit to Europe. Nord Stream 2 Awaiting Approval.

Russia's Gazprom declined to book extra capacity to ship more gas to Europe at auctions on Tuesday, a step that would have helped ease prices in a market haunted by worries about Moscow's intentions.

The Kremlin said Russia remains committed to start pumping additional gas to Europe once domestic storage is replenished, in line with an order given to Gazprom last week by President Vladimir Putin.

But Gazprom decided against booking additional gas transit capacity via Ukraine and Poland to Europe for January-September 2022, in a sign it has no plans to supply more than contractual volumes, at least via these two routes.

Operator Chrysaor (Harbour Energy) spudded the 30/8-4 Dunnottar exploration well on 17 October with the Valaris 121 jack-up rig. The well is a commitment for a 30th Round award and is targeting 70 mmboe in a HPHT Triassic Skagerrak Formation tilted fault block structure. In the event of success, the J-block hub provides the most likely tie-back candidate. The well has a predicted dry hole duration of c. 115 days.
Operations completed on 9 October at the Chrysaor (Harbour Energy) operated 30/13e-12, 12Z Talbot appraisal well which spudded on 20 July with the Valaris 121 jack-up rig. The rig then mobilised to drill the operator’s 30/8-4 Dunnottar exploration well. The 30/13e-12, 12Z Talbot appraisal well was targeting the Paleocene with the aim of refining current resources of c. 20 mmboe and address uncertainty around the depth of the OWC. A planned horizontal sidetrack was kicked off on 1 September indicating a successful initial well. The well had an estimated duration of 90 days in a success case and the actual duration was close to this with the well completing on 9 October. The J-block hub provides the most likely tie-back candidate.

Phil Kirk, the chief executive Europe for Harbour Energy, the largest UK-listed independent oil and gas company, says the government must encourage the next generation of North Sea development – everything from hydrocarbon production and carbon capture and storage to floating wind turbines and green and blue hydrogen.

“It is, I expect, a huge political regret that we missed out on a manufacturing windfall from wind. We have massively invested in wind but we don’t make a lot of the kit here,” Kirk says.

“Transition won’t happen overnight unless we want to turn off the lights and shut down our industry and the hospitals. We are going to have plan carefully and understand the consequences of any hasty decisions – for the UK and not just for Aberdeen.”

Harbour Energy, the second largest oil and gas operator in the North Sea, is betting it can continue to prioritize production while investing in carbon capture. Earlier this month, the company was awarded a carbon storage license from the UK industry regulator.

"For five years, for 10 years, we will be predominantly a hydrocarbon-producing company," said Phil Kirk, Harbour Energy's president and CEO for Europe. "Might we [also] have a carbon capture business with transportation and service that adds to revenue? Yes, we might."

The London Stock Exchange summary of trades has confirmed this transaction suggesting potentially that its indeed a buy order due to the share price traded and this is about where the shares have bounced up from.

Mexico’s state oil company reported a 77.2bn peso ($3.8bn) loss in the third quarter of the year because of a higher tax burden and large foreign exchange losses from a weaker peso. That followed a profit of 1.4bn pesos in the year-ago quarter.

Pemex on Thursday revealed total crude oil output in the quarter rose to 1.752m barrels per day without partners’ production. That was the fourth consecutive quarter of output increases, the company said. The boost came from new field wells in the southwest, south and north marine regions as well as incremental increases elsewhere.

Pemex plays a key role in the economic strategy of oil nationalist Andrés Manuel López Obrador, who wants the country to become energy self-sufficient. He recently proposed an energy reform that would partly reverse a 2013 opening of the market to foreign investment and get rid of the independent hydrocarbons regulator. The private sector has said the reform would do profound damage to the country’s economy and environment.

Pemex’s debt pile stood at 2.3tn pesos ($113bn) at the end of September, slightly higher than at the end of 2020.

Shell chief executive Ben van Beurden said the energy giant won’t be attending the global climate event.

The Shell comments follow recent reports that fossil fuel companies have been given no formal role in the UN COP26 event.

Mr van Beurden also expressed disappointment in the UK government’s decision not to award ‘Track 1’ funding to the Scottish Cluster, which includes the Acorn CCS and hydrogen projects.

Shell is the technical developer of the Acorn project, based at the St Fergus gas terminal near Peterhead, alongside partners Harbour Energy and Storegga.

“We had obviously hoped to be in the first tier of projects,” he said. “That is now a reserve position, which is a pity.

The Indonesian government and Harbour Energy signed a memorandum of understanding last year that will allow the company to pipe its gas 90 kilometres across the border into Vietnam’s offshore pipeline network.
