What an absolute nightmare. Thanks for taking the initiative on this. To be honest it never really occurred to me that my previously tax shielded investment could end up being outside its current ISA wrapper. Just another reason why I will be voting against this deal. It’s a dog’s breakfast.

Agreed. To be honest, I’m not overly impressed that this is where we currently are in terms of a forward plan (From Half year Results).

Yes I wondered if it was due to the high volatility recently. I’m not sure the closed period has anything to do with it. There was a similar announcement this time last year that was preceded by a several transactions in their own shares. It would be nice to better understand the mechanism that triggers these transactions. I thought it’s was when the premium or discount was getting too large, but perhaps it’s not that simple.

It’s been a while since we’ve had one of these from SMT, despite the shares trading at a discount to NAV. Anybody have any idea why we haven’t seen one for a while?

Careful, I think all you’ve done is work out what Hurricane shares were approximately worth on the 31st August. I don’t think you can work out what CA’s average is any better than you work mine out.

Let’s hope so Golden Badger. If your back of a fag packet calculations are right, it seems to me that barring any major surprises, Hurricane may just about manage to pay off the bond holders by next year. However as others have pointed out they will still need some working capital to continue operating. Even more if they intend to do some kind of intervention, drill another well etc. It will be interesting to see how they can achieve that. Good luck all holders and DYOR.

I’m not sure, but if you are correct and the company have the flexibility to do this, then I would think that the company would have to do this in order to maximise shareholder value?

Could be. But I think there was at least one other big buy over recent days wasn’t there? So can’t all be shorts closing. I can’t see older transactions anymore. DYOR

Hello, I’m trying to understand what the expected effect on NAV would be by SMT purchasing its own shares. Assuming no change in the price of the other investments in the portfolio, would you expect the NAV to increase, decrease or stay about the same? I’m assuming that this is done to narrow the premium/discount, but does it change both the price and NAV at the same time? Could someone more experienced than me enlighten me please? Thank you.

They don’t seem to have wasted any time in changing the portfolio over. Share price has fallen quite a bit since mid February.

Assuming the vote goes through on Monday, what happens to the shares held by existing shareholders? Will they be automatically compensated on delisting or will we have to sell them before then?

As I still haven’t received any documentation, does anyone know how I will be able to find out about the result of the vote on Monday. I’m guessing someone may post it here, but is there anywhere official that this will be posted.

Think it’s looking increasingly unlikely any rival bids are going to be tabled now. I’m guessing I can sell right up to before the vote? I still haven’t received any scheme documents so not sure what the rules are.
