Gen 1 would be a good test bed for the rest of the stackable global shutter infrastructure and potentially all that would be required is a swap to Gen 2 QD film.

The BrightSense range has only just been launched. As in only in the last few weeks or at most in the last couple of months. I believe everyone including potentially ST themselves has over egged the pudding on timelines from launch and uptake into devices. It's disappointing and Nanoco haven't yet learned it's sometimes better to say nothing or at least caveat the guidance more clearly.

As for Peel Hunt I don't believe Gen 1 was ever going to be the big earner for meaningful revenues. Nanoco did mention there was a possibility of adoption into a mobile and ST said they made VD55G1 for mobiles but that doesn't mean it's going to happen and lead may indeed be a factor but that's not going to stop it being used in other applications.

Regardless, Nanoco are once again on the wrong side of news and there is very little that can be done when you say something 4 months ago that isn't delivered regardless of whether it's guided or because of matters out with their control. We just have to accept this is the way it is and only time will deliver the true success or failure of this particular sensing opportunity.

I think that’s a fair summary. They are clearly being mindful what they say and without confirmation or guidance from ST what else could they do?

If they are scrapping it it’s not the BrightSense range they presented on today that we know at least tone is in the NiR range. They are using tech to achieve that and indications are its QD film. Is it Nanoco QD’s? That’s the question and the risk. I think yes they are using Nanoco QD technology and patience is required.

The tech to enable it was available for sampling yes.

But Nanoco Gen 1 material was only validated at the end of last year and only then could ST make production ready samples available.

Assuming all BrighSense sensors contain QD films since they all see in the IR range then just for VD55G1 it was only made available for mass production in May.

However there is no real evidence apart from some presentations indicating that QD film is used and a supply agreement that Nanoco is in any of the sensors available just now.

Nanonano if you were correct in your assumptions, then they would be in mass production 2 years ago. I'm afraid you may have misinterpreted the length of the development cycle regardless of the availability of the first samples 2 years ago.

ST have shipped 1bn rolling shutter sensors and are replacing the tech with global shutters. It can't happen over night but when it does I suspect it will be more volume than Metalenz

Very little mention of NIR/SWIR and nothing about QD. All the sensor family works in the IR range however.

Rolling shutters are the norm, but global shutters will replace them however it's not just a swap out because of their different approach to image capture and the applications because of new capability.

I got the view they are not yet in mass production and board samples were available via STM partners who have "some stock available" They are being sent out with hardware and software kits for a turnkey option but it's obviously going to take time to swap technologies.

The sensors are great tech though. they said (more than once) that there are other product releases that they won't be discussing but the 5 available in the family cover most mainstream applications.

Nanonano Im not sure you are qualified to speak on behalf of the OEM’s but if you are correct and ST have invested in production of sensors with Nanoco Pb products with no chance of selling them, they are clearly stupid and inept.

3rd partner was guided as 6 months approx from March so still possible.

Feeks, if they guide and miss then they are screwed as evidenced by this morning. It's too tight now post buyback. If they don't guide they are screwed. So they are guiding that they will update more in October. Take your seats or leave until then. But today is an overreaction.

Well Nanonano I don't think anyone really knows. Let's see what the Brightsense webinar says and maybe that will give a better indication of timeframes. As someone pointed out perhaps todays announcement of a delay and the webinar are connected.

It's a compete overreaction and the MM's took advantage of people reading this as a cancellation when in reality it was just an update on guidance of no new orders in the next 29 days. Volumes are pretty low.

No doubt if that happens the usual suspects will claim Cav knew this for months hence the pause and restart....oh wait!

The delay in the order will reduce the earnings for FY24 because of a delay in the supply chain and the company is advising you of this precisely as people have demanded for reasons of transparency and what does everyone do? Throw the baby out with the bathwater. I hope the company is buying like crazy :-)

STM are not making new NIR/SWIR sensor arrays for fun. But the device manufacturers need time to understand what functionality the new sensor will provide. Long term investors understand the process and STM guided the long development path themselves in various presentations.
