Many of those shares traded today ate the same ones traded yesterday and the day before that and so on, that's what day traders do, they churn the same stock over and over. Sometimes they win, sometimes they lose.

As a % of the so called "free float", daily trades add up to between 4% and 7% of what's actually not held by Directors and Others who have declared their holdings.
