Here come the weekend a*holes - desperately trying to clog the thread and curtail any HBR discussion

Been out all day, and when I saw Brent & UK Gas prices today I fully expected to see HBR having one of its really good days

Instead we are struggling to rise a couple of pennies on truly pitiful volume of less than 500k

Is 260 really proving ultra tough resistance or are events in the Middle East overshadowing everything at the moment?

Almost got excited seeing a 11p rise first thing, but sellers soon cut that in half :(

One thing not really discussed yet is a share buyback of some sort

If Shanta is throwing off cash and they consider the company very undervalued, then buying back at these levels could make sense

I know buybacks work better for some companies than others, and on balance they would probably prefer to build a war chest to fund WK, but is it not something to consider?

Shares could be held in treasury perhaps rather than cancelled?

Well you are certainly cherry picking figures to suit your argument

Yes profit after tax in the annual figures was -$2.3m but that was somewhat dwarfed dont you think by the $12.6n PAT in the last six months

Yes losses after tax have been frustrating when they actually money before tax, but there has been a seismic change with the opening of Singida

Sods law that the gold price has had nearly $200/oz taken off it in the last few months

With my tinfoil hat on, I genuinely think there is an element of the USA trying hard to punish the saudis for cutting production

USA wanted cheaper oil, USA gets it....$11 in a week is overkill but it suits them. All of a sudden the media focuses on a drop in gasoline demand, rather than the continuing fall in inventories

With respect guys the Taconic short was cleared with shares they swapped in exchange for the Noble bondholding....they almost certainly didnt buy in market imho

My opinion? Run up due to the rapid increase in Brent, and the recent plunge is due to the rapid attack on the Brent price by traders following dollar strength/ bond market chaos

The analyst jumped to a wrong conclusion on the shorting due to lack of knowledge on the special situation

Theyve taken the Brent price right back to previous resistance around $86 at end-August

Needless to say HBR was in the 250s at that point (not 230s) and that was before it went x-div by 9.6p

My god this share is a traders plaything

Absolutely no idea, but probably lower at the rate they are torturing the Brent price on a day when the dollar index is actually down 40 points

.....and before anyone says Im pretty sure that Marshall Wace have only appeared on the visible shorters list due to a recalculation of their holding based on a lower number of shares in issue

Traders are milking this dollar/bond rout for all its worth. Dollar Index is actually down a fair bit today but Brent stll pummelled lower by $2.50

Im sure it suits someones agenda

I just hope we arent going to get an afternoon sell off on top of the already poor day weve had so far

Its happened Monday and Tuesday this week, lets hope for a change of fortunes today

I remain convinced that Biden and his crew will be perfectly happy with higher rates and greenback for a while.

They will want to get fuel prices under their control in the run up to election year, and in their mind they will be out to exact some revenge on the 'pesky arabs' for cutting production in the first places

Its all a viloent over reaction, but these crappy scenarios have a habit of lasting longer than you might think......and as always HBR will out perform to the downside (probably) lol

The USA wants lower commodity prices (especially fuel) in the run up to election year. Opec have been getting things all their own way recently, so looks to me they have weaponized the greenback.

Surprise surprise, first of the US big banks (Citi) suddenly see a sustained fall in the oil price down to $70.

Second day now we have seen an early afternoon sell off. Is this because US sellers appear and there are no buybacks to mop up the selling or is it just down to continuing dollar strength?

Been out most of the day so missed our friday afternoon 5p drop. Any reason for it other than our US friends taking $2 off Brent in quick time?

Very interesting to read that the storage at the US major hub at Cushing is nearing what they call "tank bottom". Biden has drained the Strategic Reserve to historically low levels, now Cushing is emptying. What is he going to do next to try and keep has prices down ahead of his election year?

Closing bid price yesterday gives a theoretic gain of £7.95m. However, share price twice adjusted down for xd.....someone else can calculate how that affected things lol

No mention that the buyback was concluded, so guess they are going for tomorrow? Would take us to around $207m
