For a good part of today the price was being constantly manouvered lower....bid and ask constantly nibbled away at. Strange we should see that when we get a (rare) really good update but hey ho, maybe Mr.Slim wants to buy his shares at lower prices

They are seemingly able to ratchet the price lower whenever they want with a stopgap reason of "demand concerns"

Gold is under similar control. After hitting $2150 in the far east it was utterly smacked down in the following 48 hours using a volume of 'paper gold' that only only nation states would be comfortable trading. In oil its USA vs OPEC (Saudis), in gold its USA vs Far East (China)

I strongly smell the whiff of US corruption regarding the oil price.

One minute the world and his dog are predicting $100 oil, the next we are in a seemingly endless downtrend into the low 70s. All this when the good old US of A needs cheap gas in election year, and to refill the seriously depleted SPR.

Seen plenty of articles coming out of the states saying the oil market has been taken over by algorithnmic trading by the big CTAs. Just like gold, its much easier to push the oil price where you want it using paper oil rather than the real stuff

How is it daily volume today was a paltry 430k yet we then get a UT trade of over 900k? How come they dont transact this business during the day?

Its a pattern that it occuring pretty regularly, with over half to two thirds of daily volume being transacted in the closing auction. Why?

These are legacy hedges from when debt was much higher and the oil price was lower

Basically lenders wouldnt lend without the assurances of a hedged sale price. Subsquent price action has proved.....unfavourable

In theory HBR is undervalued now and will get more so as the hedges drop away and we begin realising higher end oil/gas prices.

Trouble is theory never seems to match reality and I suspect thats because of UK govt destroying NS sentiment

Hopefully one day the tide will turn, but I suspect that will require a sizeable increase in our non North Sea production

In the current situation where the UK government milks us dry, there was precious little reason for new investors to come on board. We may be debt free in 2024, we may see some value generating M&A.....but that was nothing new.

HBR seem incapable of putting a positive exciting outlook together and as a result we meander lower, with the occasional glimmer of hope

Once the overall short position drops below 0.5% it ceases to show on the short list. There are likely quite a few sizeable short positions doing their thing 'invisibly' below the 0.5% threshold where they cant be seen

Well what a typical HBR afternoon....

FTSE recovers 30 points to nearly unchanged, Brent adds a buck 50, yet good old HBR drifts lower and lower.

If tomorrow just brings nothing more than a basic trading update, then I really think it might be time for Linda and co to depart.

Interest in HBR seems to be falling off a cliff

Volume at the closing bell a paltry 500k and only the closing UT trade pushes the headline volume number up.

The government really have drained most of the UK growth prospects dry. Hopefully the Trading Update next week will shed some light on what the next steps will be. More of the same for 6-12 months just wont cut it imho

Now off 10p on barely a drop of 50c on the Brent price. Effin ridiculous
