This really does seem like a concerted effort to drive the price down so shorts can exit and instis can get their stake in a future FTSE100 company at a price they like

Again we have a pair of of large trades going through at the same time, size and price (822k @ 277.6). Last week we had 2 x 3.8m

Easily be short closing, but didnt we have similar trades when dear Mr.Slim was taking his original stake?

Has anyone actually seen the Goldman sell note and can explain their rationale?

I still think there are forces at work here that are trying to exit some shorts (sub 0.5%) in a controlled manner, having perhaps been taken by surprise by the original deal news

I believe the 2 x 3.8m trades the other day were one such example

3.8m shares is very conveniently just below 0.5% of HBR's shares in issue, ie just below the disclosure limit for short positions

Perhaps yesterdays 2 x trades were one of the 'invisible' shorters closing out and the shares going back to where they were borrowed from.

Well we do seem to be encountering a degree of 'roundnumberitis' currently in addition to the recent afternoon pullbacks weve seen recently

Seems to be a desire to not pass 300 at the moment, despite Brent doing well. This was manisfested by a lot of two way AT business being transacted at exactly 300 at 9:02. Perhaps a selller at that level?

.....and again an afternoon runaway from the 300 level, at odds with a strong Brent price

We seem to be getting back into the good old pattern of afternoon selloffs regardless of what happened earlier in the day.

Anyone explain what caused todays dip from 2:30pm? Obviously something US related but it certainly wasnt the oil price, which headed in the opposite direction

Perhaps 300p is a line in the sand our shorty friends dont want to be crossed?

Product inventories rose but by around half that stated by API

Anything is possible I guess, and I suppose traders could be exiting in the belief that they can leave HBR to have a mediocre 6 months before re-entering ahead of deal completion

I certainly agree this mornings RNS was very monotone - in stark contrast to the bravado of the Wintershall announcement

I know the info being given out this morning was erm...disappointing, but there was little attempt to stress the good bits

I imagine those with significant short positions, albeit less than 0.5% will be working hard to re-establish some control of the share price and recoup some of their lost profits from the last few weeks
