Well by maintaining an abnormally wide spread of 19-22 the MMs effectivey snuffed out the last positive move. Now the share is turning lower, they narrow it right up to make the decline look as bad as possible

....could not be maintained needless to say

Trade figures being distorted by some Bed/ISAs by the look of it, and MMs taking the opportunity to walk this down in the face any selling

Positive news will likely be the only catalyst for a sustainable move?

Also those 2 x 6.3m trades are imho highly likely to have been transacted yesterday, The rules are like wading through treacle to a PI, but their size suggest they would meet the criteria to be rolled over to midday the next day

Letterone or Carlos Slim I would say, however who is providing the other side of the transactions? With oil so out of favour I would have thought there are several instis who might want to exit the sector....though their loss wouldnt be one to sniff at

The Letterone holding was a big issue as part of the Wintershall deal, hence the creation of a new class of share. Now they are accumulating votes, where do they intend to stop....

Depends on how much further they take it and if theres any adverse reaction from HM Government

Protecting Britains energy security is a hard sell to the public if Harbor's shares fall more and more into russian oligarchs hands. Personally i think they could acquire a lot more shares before it really becomes an issue, but the newspapers might think otherwise

Much as I would love some stakebuilding action, I can only see HM government getting extremely nervous if more and more shares in a major NS oil producer end up with Letterone

Can just see the headlines....."Control of NS oil going to russian ologarchs"

If they were indeed behind all the matched pair transactions recently, I wonder who took the other side of the transaction?

In guess in current markets they could quite easily find some instis that have had enough of the oil sector, and Harbor in particular. However, will the involvement of Letterone with sanctioned oligarchs cause issues for Harbor now they have votes?

Apologies if this is off-track, but arent LetterOne the vehicle in which russian assets were held as part of the Wintershall deal? Didnt they have to create a special class of share to get round russian sanctions?

Now we get an RNS saying Letterone has 3.3% of voting rights via 47.7m shares?

Its been a long day so Im probably readingt this all wrong....but werent their shares non-voting and if so, is this a new position in our Ordinary voting shares?

Actual spread is currently 16.99 - 18.14 (AJ Bell) so a hell of a lot narrower than 3p

Bid has been over 16.5p just about all week but they just wont move the quote in any way. Another reason might just be that volumes are quite low and theyve had bigger problems to deal with all week :)

Looks like GLG Partners have been actively increasing their short over the last few weeks as opposed to (mistakenly?) popping their head over the 0.5% threshold

Im not going to drone on about this, but if I was an insti with say 25m shares (god forbid) and the share price was at todays levels, I would be mighty peed off if management offered BASF a much higher exit price, and I wasnt. Make sense?

We can argue about increased eps and yields from such a buyback until the cows come home, but we did all that during the last buyback and what benefit did that ultimately give us?

Im absolutely fine with being corrected (I did apologise if my comment was dumb), however I struggle to accept that they can show preference to one shareholder.

I bow to superior knowledge re BP, I just find it confusing that they could offer say £2.50 to BASF without extending the offer to others? Surely they could be buried in lawsuits?

Apologies if this is dumb...but presumably stock market rules would preclude HBR from only buying back BASF shares? Surely that is showing preference and means they would have to do a tender offer to all shareholders?

Looks they are actively selling more this afternoon judging by the chunky AT hits against the bid

Trouble is, now they are below 5% we wont know how many more they have to shift

Also three 1 million plus O trades, 2 of which marked as sells but not so sure about that - would have been a generous price

Seeing as our shorting friends will be having to pay out the hefty dividend against their positions, it could be them increasing their shorts from an unexpectedly high position at start of day.

Either that,or its just the continually weakening oil price thats scaring people out, now its ex-div
