Interesting article, unless it's a misprint, appears to indicate Smasung have walked away from large screen OLED, so probably they're now looking at microLED dor next gen.

I guess it depends on a couple of things.

We do know that Apple have a very large number of patents integrating QD's into various displays and sensors, so if they plan to eventually translate those into pordicts they'll need a reliable supply of QD's.

Will Apple want a competitor to get their hands on the company, with the risk that they may choose to make the tech exclusive?

We know there is more than one interested party, but nothing more beyond that.

Either that, or all our 'ring's will be getting it!

Samsung have always used cad free, Nanoco acknowledged that on several occasions, but it was a combination of Nanosys and their own in house tech. It was never available to other companies however. Hence Nanoco could claim to be the only commercial supplier of cad free quantum dots.

Nanosys do list cad free materials on their website, on the product page they list the following:

Heavy Metal Free Quantum Dots – 100% free of heavy metals like Cadmium and Lead

Hyperion™ Quantum Dots – Fully RoHS compliant with no exemption needed

Quantum Dots – The original, lowest cost Quantum Dot material with industry-leading performance

If Samsung were using Nanoco IP, the share price would be considerably higher than it is.

The Korean OEM's know they're facing stiff competition from the Chinese, who have huge capacity to totally disrupt the display market. They already have a huge chunk of the US and Chinese market, and are making major inroads in the European markets. Their TV's are significantly cheaper and offer a lot for the money.

Samsung and LG seem to be responding by looking to raise the stakes in quality, but that is only likely to appeal to a very small sector of the market that are happy to pay £1000+ for a set. Most people want a set for the £500-1000 range, so in volume sales they've probably already lost, just a matter of time.

Lg also in difficulties with their OLED production. Could be looking to alternatives.

Why disappointed? Samsung haven't used Nanoco's dots to date. Perhaps they're looking at alternative production methods. Purely speculative.

Seems a bit strange if Plessey are still active with Nanoco bearing in mind they recently announced they could now produce native red microled.

I can't see the Korean or US companies letting the Chinese get their mitts on Cd free QD tech easily so they can flood the market with cheap QD enhanced LCD displays. Not without a fight anyway. We'll see I guess.

High degree of significance for the elimination of QD's in microled. This I think would have been a factor in putting the company up for sale, as it closes off an additional revenue stream that had the potential to be lucrative.

I would have thought that the initial offers must be acceptable enough for Nanoco to move forward towards due diligence .

They have some trade secrets, but I believe most of the IP is patented, so in the public domain already.

My guess at potential would be, Apple, Samsung, LG, CSOT and NN crystal has been mentioned elsewhere, possibly ST micro.

Revenue from sales has been pitiful to date. Sales cost increased significantly last year, as a consequence of increased product so says the board. Clearly the market considers this company lacking credibility. If sales materialize inline with expectations, then we should see the share price improving and fast, but I think we will have to wait until the interims at best.

I thought it was the QD camera that was canned, or at least postponed.
