I believe a multiplier will be at least two times if Samsung are found guilty. My reasoning behind that is that Nanoco are a company practising their tech, rather than simply a patent troll, and Samsung's antics have severely hampered their ability to grow e.g. the amount of staff they've had to let go, some of whom are now employed by competitors, plus the winding down of some R&D especially in the bio sector.

The three times factor may even be employed if the jury settles on a lower damages figure, but we will see.

First Nanoco have to win, and although I find it hard to imagine they won't with the strength of their case, it's still not a sure thing.

The underlying gut instinct with Samsung is that they have to be told they are wrong, they won't admit it themselves.

If it had been anyone but Samsung, I'd have imagined a settlement would have been reached long before now. They have plenty of past form to indicate this will go on until they are forced either by a European court injunction or exhausting the appeals process to pay up.

In the meantime a likely positive verdict from East Texas, complete with a figure for damages should give shareholders something to cheer, and organic business in sensors shouldn't be far away.

I believe Hansol existed long before that, but unsurprisingly were not expert in the nano technology arena. Rather better known for producing more general chemical products and paper.

Nanoco have outlined many uses for the sensor materials, including autonomous driving systems, but has stated it doesn’t know the intended final application of the sensor technology. However they have stated that they believe the first use is likely to be a more niche product and lower volume (but higher price). From other sources it seems one of the hurdles to overcome in the use of QD tech in cars is the temperature stability. Cars present a harsher environment and are subject to more intense testing and specification requirements than other consumer items. E.g. electronic components designated for automotive use tend to have around 40% higher temperature tolerance.

The companies supplying parts would have known well before the public that delays were imminent.

If you look at the Yole video link I posted a few days back, it's interesting to see how small the projected market is for SWIR in cars compared with consumer gadgets like phones and AR.

Just $6.5m by 2027, compared with $499m, so almost eighty times the size. It's only analysts best guess, but Yole tend to be pretty good with their forecasts.

Will they revisit QD's, who knows. Competitors like Applied materials are reportedly working with UV microled through QD filters.

I believe that Plessey pivoted away from QD enhancement and moved towards a native RGB structure for their micro LED displays. They've worked exclusively for meta/facebook for the last two or three years, Mike Edelman described it as close to a takeover, although AFAIK they remain independent of Meta.

Purely platonic I believe.
