RE: Conference23 Sep 2024 14:38
Mick, the extravagant renewal of the helicopter contract was indeed covered and criticised extensively in 2023 by what you would likely classify as right wing media at the time (Times Telegraph etc) and its cancellation by Starmer was covered by the Neo Nazi Sun a few days ago.
It was an unacceptable extrazvagence excused no doubt by Sunak and his cronies as being necessary in terms of efficency and security but inexcusable.
As far as I can judge ,however, such facilities would not have obliged Sunak to look favourably at lobbying by those bearing gifts and their interest e.g.Dale Vince the eco zealot industrialist who would dearly love to blanket UK countryside with Turbines and Solar Panels. This gift bearers expect a return on their investments .The Unions have done very well for their members and cynics amongst us would regard their financial support of the Labour Party as being their investment,no?
Gifts to politicians should be automatically donated to charity chosen by a cross party committee .
Both Sunak and Starmer are wrong in my opinion but it would not be accurate to state as fact that only Starmer comes under criticism from the right wing media.
At this point I must admit should Mr Milliband expedite a decision on SMRs and RR is the main contractor I may be tempted to gift him a truckle of Wensleydale.
