Locals at it again!!
Stolen railroad tracks in the AP are seized on a ferry; cargo is valued at BRL 500 thousand..
The Civil Police once again seized rails and metal plates stolen from the Amapá Railroad (EFA), which had been deactivated for 7 years and which, since then, has had its structures removed. The new occurrence was on the afternoon of Thursday (2) in the port area of ??Santana, from where it would be taken on a boat.
This time, the 2nd Police Precinct (2nd DP) of the municipality received information about the evidence of material theft and intercepted the load, evaluated by police chief Luiza Maia at around R$ 500 thousand.
“We have information that more than 30 plates were taken, weigh more than 300 kilos and are used to manufacture ships. The elements lead us to believe that there is a gang for theft and now for transport”, he added.
The material was loaded on a ferry at one of the city's ports, which gives access to the Amazon River. No one was arrested in the act, but those involved in the action were called to testify.
“The investigation will proceed with the hearing of the people involved, who possibly have information about the shipment. Whoever would have sold was not on the spot”, said the delegate.
Second case in 1 month
Another occurrence, on August 11, seized about 4 tonnes of the product, a volume estimated at almost R$ 1.5 million, in a metallurgical plant also in the port area of ??Santana.
The owner was arrested in the act for receiving, but was released after paying R$5,000 bail and by means of precautionary measures.
Thefts from the EFA rails, which had been deactivated since 2014, and which currently belong to the company Dev Mineração (formerly Zamin), became recurrent. Since it stopped being used, the structure has been looted.
In April 2020, a man was indicted for buying 3 tonnes of iron taken off the railroad.
AND FA
The Amapá Railroad was owned by Indústria e Comércio de Minérios SA (Icomi), which maintained a concession with the Union that lasted from the 1950s to 1998.
The line was built in less than 4 years, from 1954 to 1957. After the end of the concession, all reversible assets were transferred to the State of Amapá.
From 1998 to 2006, to avoid the transport of passengers, the government contracted a company, as a licensee, until there was a bidding process for the Concession Contract for the Exploitation of Public Service of Rail Cargo and Passenger Transport, which took place in 2006, having as winner MMX. In 2008 the concession was transferred to Anglo American and in 2013 to Zamin.
