Hmm JSI_ an interesting question. I think it rather depends on what you need to get a sense of fun out of life. So many things I enjoy cost next to nothing; fishing, cycling, walking, table-tennis, walking football and a coffee and a cake downtown. I love buying stuff from charity shops and still would even if this share makes me a million. Therefore, I could live off a very frugal amount, say 12k per year. With the state pension coming up in two years for me, I would need a pension paying £3500 per year on drawdown. Although I intend to live forever, should I mistakenly die in my mid-80's, a pot of £50k should do it. No mortgage to pay now of course.
