Toneman... your point carries a certain amount of truth. See my previous post showing a ‘Hydrogen Now’ approach to our Chancellor back in June. I don’t recall seeing any response to date.
Furthermore, I’ve written to my MP on two occasions ( July and September) asking to lobby government on this issue and not heard a peep.
If the major players in industry cannot elicit some support, it’s unlikely that local campaigns can make anything other than a local headline in the free newspapers.

I’ve advocated for a while now for the emergency services and fleet operators such as Royal Mail and couriers with return to base vehicles to transition to H2. This would be a huge step toward building confidence in hydrogen and creating the infrastructure that’s needed.
In the same way that noises are being made about wind farms future expansion having to use a greater proportion of British manufactured components, we could support our own companies - all part of Build Back Better.
Cal ... take a look at a flight tracker app and see how many planes are in the skies. Whilst passenger traffic is down, freight carriers and logistics firms are still busy. Airlines are mandated to reduce their carbon footprint from 2025 onwards, just over four years away. The time is now to get the job done.
Great for NI.
Again, Jo Bamford is making the headlines with his (as I predicted) change of name ‘Bamford Bus’ company .
Does anyone know whose electrolysers are being used here?
Good to see the Glasgow announcement today, let’s hope the MoU is turned into a solid detailed project with more to come for our new factory. It’s certainly a step in the right direction!
MOATS .... that’s an interesting view.
I spent part of my career in rail industry. Good money came not only from the build of rolling stock alone but the service contracts that come from either local servicing and spares regionally or back to base for total overhaul of running gear such as bogies and electromotive gear.
ITM recently advertised for a manager and technicians for both installation and field servicing. This is key to ensure safe operating and will be part of local permissions to install in the first instance.
There’s 17 jobs going at ITM.
I thought I’d look at one .. Production Manager !
What a dull advert. Very ordinary Duties and Responsibilities and not inspiring Experience and Qualificaton either. What is it nowadays that we allow HR to write the job descriptions for what is a role in a leading edge technology business. The last requirement in the Experience and Qualification section of advert is ‘Conflict Management’
WOW ... that really is going to make me want the job!
PSmith64 - filtered.
Sick of the ‘5 years’, ‘DYOR - it’s your money’, ‘ITM is overpriced’, ‘now taken a profit on Plug Power’ (isn’t that what we all do but we don’t bang on about it - has he ever lost any money?).
My advice to the more vulnerable on here ... take care with what you listen to from PSmith64. He’s no idea of the future.
The great thing is I won’t get to hear his response because he’s filtered... YEAH !!
SP .. I hope so too. Having had some operational and budget responsibility for warehousing and logistics, I know the frustrations that traditional battery fork lifts bring especially to a three shift 24/7 company. We continually had service engineers on site keeping the fleet running at a huge expense, Reliability was a major factor and the companies providing servicing were making a fortune!
It’s a long time since M&S turned away from ITM but in my opinion there is huge opportunity for hydrogen powered transport of all types in the supply chain. As you allude to, let’s hope others sit up and take notice.
Incidentally, a nice little rise in SP although I was looking up pick up a few more at £1-75 !! in the short term. I guess I’ll just have to be a little more patient.
Glad to still be in though , you don’t want to be caught with your pants down on this share.
GLA,
Not convinced that 10 years is realistic at all. Again, Europe talks about 40GW by 2030 but there has to be demand before the orders flow and then there’s the lead time to build, install and commission.
ITMs new factory will eventually be good for 1GW/year. If orders don’t come soon, it will have to be mothballed!
How does the cost of nuclear compare with renewables like wind & solar? Does anyone know?
If Europe's view that green hydrogen costs are 80% power and 20% are electrolyser, any reduction in electricity prices across the board will help equalise with oil derived fuels. The European view is a price of €5.50 to €6 per Kg will probably do this.
McPhy in the news again this morning but share price down 6% on the good news.
McPhy selected to develop the hydrogen infrastructure of the metropolis of Dijon
• ROUGEOT Energie, operating as general contractor EPC (1) on behalf of Dijon Métropole Smart EnergHy, has selected McPhy’s hydrogen production, compression and distribution solution to supply the metropolitan fleet of heavy (buses, garbage trucks) and light (utility and passenger cars) vehicles.
• McPhy will design, build and integrate two hydrogen stations with a capacity of 400 kg of hydrogen per day each, connected to a 1 MW high-power electrolyzer, for a complete zero-emission mobility chain.
• Following the signature of this new contract totaling more than €4 million, McPhy’s references reach a total of 33 stations and 43 MW of high-power electrolysis (2).
No let up from Bamford and Co. You’ve got to give him his due, as I’ve said previously, you can bet on the JCB family pulling out the stops to put their business at the front of the queue and on the radar.
It’s whether ITM will ever feature in the development of green hydrogen generation to fuel the fleets of vehicles that will come from the Bamford Bus Company .
