SNewby, with the current financial slide in worldwide economies for many it will be with new cars make do for a few more years.
The large manufacturers are struggling desperately, and with cheap fuel for the foreseeable future battery power is not practical.Not much range and expensive.
The only time I notice battery cars is when I see them tethered to a pole.
Try one ,your electric bill will go through the roof, that is personal experience.

My understanding is the water needed for processing comes from Marsa Alam by pipeline from the Red Sea. A large proportion is recycled through settling ponds.

I sympathise.
I live on a Spanish island that until two weeks ago had control ,totally over the virus,by quarantine and strict enforcement.
Then they opened the gates especially to the Germans.
In less than a fortnight a sports complex had 4 new contagions.
It has not been made public as the new contagions are shopped off to a hotel hospital,for quarantine/ treatment.
The reason. Money and pressure.
Relatively poor country within Europe relying on tourism from large hotel groups.
I am afraid there is a long way to go for any normality.
