NE14 now you know what I meant when I said that this board here has really nice people. In most of the other ones, they communicate in their own jargons and posting anything in there could mean they'll shout you down. Amigos are much more friendly and helpful :-) .

NE14 that's the account type I have with H&L. Means you don't have an ISA and if you haven't got one elsewhere, then you can open one up with an institute of your choice. For me VM is the most flexible one. Check them out for "Shares ISA" and see if that fits your requirements.

NE14, I 'park' everything I have left over in a shares isa with VM. With them I'm invested in the Global Share Fund. I let it build up in there for a few months. You can start off opening a shares isa with them for a minimum of £1. I pay a regularly £20 into that, plus my left overs. Withdrawals are non-fuss, which I then add to my Share Account to invest further. May sound a bit bizarre, but that's how I tick ;)

Correction: Shortly BEFORE, not AFTER Cov struck. I sold them in January.

And for those who have more substantial amounts, I'd say look at Oxford Biomedica (OXB). After a drop of around 40p down to £8.20 at the end of November, they ended on £9.23 last Friday. I used to hold shares with them, then they consolidated the shares and my 4500 shares became 45. Have sold them early this year, shortly after Covid struck and they built a connection to Astrazeneca (had something to do with a patent to deliver the injection, if I recall correctly). No I could kick myself :-)

Iknownuffin... that's why I wrote 'keep an eye on them' ;-) I look every once in while for news ;-) so should that should they float at some point, I'm ready to pounce ;)

NE14, then also keep an eye on this one: https://www.cornishlithium.com/ They're not on the LSE yet. Found them a few weeks ago and liked the fact, that we have high grade lithium practically on our own doorstep.
Personally, I'm quite restricted in what I can invest into at the moment, as I'm running a trial here. Had a bet with my family that it still is possible to make money by starting off investing very little amounts (my current 'allowance' is £250 per month plus what I make through trading and dividends). So far it works, but unlike in the 90s when all I needed to do was invest into telecommunication, it's much harder and slower.

Hello NE14 (nice area, if that's where you're located ;) I'm minus 5 that ;) ) and welcome to this board, where you find the nicest people compared to other boards. If you get the taste for investing, then you may also want to research these ones for yourself: Pan African Rescources (PAF) a gold mine, Bushveld Minerals (BMN) a vanadium mine and the recently LSE-listed Tirupati Graphite Plc (TGR) a graphite mine. All three are important for the digital and the renewable energy industry. I gained between 20 - 80% depending on what price I invested into them over the last few months, but don't just take my word for it. Do your own thorough research on them. Research is what takes my mind off sweating over Amigo :-) . Good luck to you :-)

Has anyone heard of these effects? Just read about this somewhere, googled but could not find anything. Is this some share-jargon and if it is, does anyone know what this means?

An article from 9th November 2020 by African Review. Ignore all the Covid-mentionings if you wish. I do, as there's little that can be done about it right now. Then, what is left is what I like to read, even though the article coming from an African source could be seen as biased. But read the reasons in favour of VFRB listed at the bottom of the article. One factor is one of the main problems solved in the mobility and industrial battery world: "None flammable". When I then enter the keywords 'vanadium batteries' into a search engine, I find more articles from numerous other sources that increase my confidence into Bushveldt/Vanadium. One from Forbes dated 24.10.2020, e.g. which mentions VFRB as a solution for energy storage. I am far from being a tech-geek, I leave that to the specialists and if they see a future in VFRB, which they do, then that is fine by me and even though vanadium is all around us, there isn't that many areas where it is worth mining it.

Having said that, I don't underestimate Lithium and Graphite. Just look at the 'new kid on the block', Tirupati Graphite plc, whose shares were listed on the LSE only a few days ago.

seamus, please lend me a bag of your optimism, I really could with some :-) I have become a bit depressed in recent weeks. Not wanting to visit my old homeland is one thing, not being able to, is something that takes getting used to. Once, I'd be able to again, I wouldn't want to anyway and at that stage my world is back to normal :-)

HeresHopin, I appreciate what you say, but as I said, I'm being realistic and when I hear that governments have to jump in to save their national airlines, as is the case with Lufthansa e.g. and knowing that this may not be enough, then I'm beginning to wonder what people will be going on their next holiday with? And where to? Mallorca, Lampedusa, Gran Canaria, Tenerife or any other sunny island where currently refugees are landing in the hundreds with boats on a daily basis? Daily Mail reported about an hour ago, that British Airways will stop over 15 long-haul routes for 2021. As I said, I'm trying to de-ramp, I'm trying too look at the larger picture and begin to wonder where this will all lead us. So far, I'm at a loss.

I am thinking the same, but I am asking myself a few more questions, such as: "Does the current situation (Cov19) lend itself to be a solid ground for lending in the first place?" and: "Who, with a clear mind, would become a guarantor, during a time when nothing seems predictable?". Yesterday I read somewhere, that Amigo think of starting lending again in 2021. The article was a few weeks old and printed prior to government now talking about a new strand of the virus. It would therefore not surprise me, if we soon get hit by Cov20, which would make everything even more unpredictable. Covid happened at the worst possible time for Amigo, which was already dealing with enough problems as it already is and nobody knows when the decision will be made to call Covid history. I still do see potential in Amigo, but I also think we may all travel on a long and winding road and my intention is not to de-ramp. I'm trying to be realistic.

Forget my post below. I have made up my mind. I hold and top up when it drops. A 200% increase over five years is too good a result to tamper with.

Hi and greetings as this is my first post in here.
Been holding a small amount of PAF since 2015 and topped up this year when the SP was at 19.39 . Just had a look at the graphs here on LSE and they show a very steady rise over the last few weeks. So steady, that I don't recall ever having noticed that before. Is there something I have missed? As PAF seems to have a tendency to suddenly drop, this year's (based on 52-week time span) was at 8.45, for example. I am right now at a loss, whether I should sell and buy back more
after a drop, or whether I should hold. I know that nobody can make this decision for me, but as this share is a bit like a roller coaster, I wonder about the general opinion.
