This being the nicest message board, with the funniest and loveliest investors, is another great reason why Amigo must prevail. I've visited many other message boards and found them usually full of t*** pots, claiming to be millionaires, but bizarrely you can write a calendar on which days certain day certain people will be absent, or should I say absinth :-) . It could have something to do with their investment strategy, which is this huge company called Universal Credit ;-) and these are the worst rampers and de-rampers and fakers of knowledge they don't have. In here people are usually 'earthed' with both feet on their ground and none of us like losing money, but we also know that without taking risk or a leap of faith, there's no going forward. What I detest, are these little creepy hedgehogs with 30plus posts under their furry bellies, coming out with carp like "hey... this is message board for investors.." my a*** ;-) to them I'd like to say: "If you can't play the game with a little bit of human interaction and fun, don't play it" ;-)

Now PJx323 (Pyjama extra small plus height in millimetres or whatever it stands for) is blocked. I can't stand people like that.

Will you please stop filling the message board with ridiculous gripes? This isn't a complaint site, you know? And those who can't switch off for a short period of time, should seek help elsewhere, not here.

Well, expru, this is the problem ;-) they were much smaller than us, West Germany had around 60 Mio people and East Germany around 18 Million back then, but it turned out that rather the majority assimilating the minority, it was the East Germans who showed us where the hammer was hanging lol. I will never forget, when the former SED, with a new name (PDS and now they call themselves "Die Linke") swanned into the Bundestag and took seats in there. These people being the same for their/our fellow Germans getting shot when trying to flee into the West. For me it was the most 'sick-to-the-stomach-feeling' to watch that happening, I have so far experienced. It might sound strange, but I found that more difficult to witness, than knowing that many of the former Nazis were permitted to hold high offices and go (back) into politics in 1948. Probably because I was in regards of time more detached, but I was right. Angie has moved the CDU being a conservative party, so far left, it's unrecognisable, which made the German version of the Labour Party looking something in between libertarian and not knowing their purpose. Even the liberals look these days conservative and the Green Party is showing who they are: Watermelons (green on outside and red on the inside), but their leaders can't think further than from the wallpaper to the plaster. Die Linke (former SED) has made a complete U-turn from before the times of the reunification, in the sense that... back then they tried the toughest measures to prevent their people from leaving their country and now they want everybody in. I'm glad I don't have to live in that confusion lol.
Yes, we met were I lived, in Krefeld in a Disco. I can't remember why, but we had a brief verbal exchange and he said: "Your English is really good" and I replied: "Yours isn't too bad either" :-) and that was that :-) He was RS when we met. RS = Royal Signals, that's basically British Telecom but with gun, for those who don't know :-) . So in the military hierarchy you being RN sets you HIGH above any other force :-)

expru, originally I am from Germany. Former West Germany, to be exact. I am what is known as a called Cold War Child :-) , I was born after the wall was built. In my part of Germany our parents talked about 'The Russian is in front of the door' where in East Germany the Russian must have been sitting in their living room lol :-) . I'm still not used to it being reunified and probably never will get used to it. It has cost a fortune, brought nothing but problems and in the end we wound up with a fully trained communist as the chancellorette. Luckily, I married a dishy soldier before the wall fell and he whisked me away to Merry Old England were we live happily and hopefully for many more years to come since 2000 :-)

The ombudsman showed it was not afraid to take a hard line on links between the EU and the private sector when it slammed the EU banking agency’s failure to block its executive director from becoming the head of a lobbying group.

In a staunch defence of the BlackRock mandate sent to aggrieved MEPs, Valdis Dombrovskis, the EU’s financial commissioner, denied the presence of conflicts of interest. He said that BlackRock had committed to a physical segregation between its Financial Markets Advisory unit, which holds the mandate, and the rest of its business. He added that the commission would terminate the contract should BlackRock not adhere “scrupulously” to its conditions.

But Mr Carême, the Green MEP to whom the letter was addressed, said that the commissioner’s explanation was “not satisfactory”, complaining that the commission had not made public details of the measures taken by BlackRock to prevent conflicts. “To resolve the conflict of interests, the contract should be cancelled and the tender reopened,” he said. "

But Ursula got her way ;)

The European Commission’s appointment of BlackRock to provide advice on sustainability rules is to be probed by an influential EU watchdog following a backlash by politicians and green campaigners.

The European Ombudsman, the independent authority responsible for probing complaints against the EU, this week opened an investigation into whether the commission fully assessed the risks of conflicts of interest when it approved BlackRock’s bid.

Brussels’ selection in April of the world’s largest asset manager to advise on integrating sustainability into banking regulation met with strong resistance from MEPs and campaigners, who questioned BlackRock’s ability to act as an impartial adviser given its holdings in European banks and fossil fuel companies.

In a letter to commission president Ursula von der Leyen, ombudsman Emily O’Reilly said that she would investigate whether the commission had respected procedures regarding “the evaluation of any conflicts of interest and the measures to prevent any such conflicts”.

The probe comes in response to a complaint filed by two MEPs, Damien Carême and Marisa Matias, and NGO network Change Finance, who expressed “[concerns] about the adequacy of the measures presented by BlackRock” to prevent conflicts of interest and the ability of the commission “to monitor the effectiveness of these measures”.

The move places further scrutiny on the appointment, which could see BlackRock extend its influence in Brussels at a time when it is promoting its green credentials.

The ombudsman cannot force the cancellation of the mandate. However, a negative judgment would put the commission under more pressure to reconsider its decision. Almost 80 MEPs have submitted questions about the BlackRock mandate since April, and 92 organisations supported an open letter sent to Brussels by Change Finance.

BlackRock said it was “strongly supportive” of the commission’s aims of integrating sustainability into the financial system. It added that its Financial Markets Advisory unit had policies in place to “safeguard the sensitive nature of our client information, and operates behind a stringent information barrier”. These barriers had been reviewed and audited by clients including some of world’s largest institutions, it added. ...."

expru, I find the figures astronomical, even though they might actually correct and that is exactly the reason why I still have hope. For in situations like this an agreements will be made. Call it 'scheme', even though that has a bit of a negative connotation, just as 'pact' would have. I feel the days, when an authority couldn't give a poop about a company going bust and people on many fronts losing out, are long gone. The FOS would get bad press from more directions than they can take cover from. We may want to look into, as far as how much Brexit will effect our financial regulatory system. For Mrs Ursula von der Leyen, also known as the dream of the hairspray industry, has, in her incredible f***witty way of f***wittiness appointed no other but Blackrock to write up the new EU financial regulations :-)

For some reason these shares can't get bought through H&L . Not sure why not.

For a few years we were actually considering moving back after retiring, but the older we get, the more everything being 'up that hill' becomes less attractive. When I say everything is up a hill, that's exactly what's its like, whether it's the bank or a shop and when I say hill, I mean HILL as in STEAP lol. I remember it suddenly starting to snow when I was at work and suddenly all the shops shut, my boss sent me home and I thought the Welsh are nuts, it's only a bit of snow, but then I found that it was extremely difficult to drive the car 'up that hill' to Cashfield Estate where we lived.
Pembrokeshire Radio was cool. After the news they radioed the current weather report, which I found hilarious, as all that one needed to do was to look out of the window :-) and at the end of the weather report they always said: "It (the weather) might change" :-) . Or the advertisement for The Tool Trader in Narberth was a cracker: "The Tool Trader in Narberth....sells tools" :-) No poop, Sherlock, I wouldn't have guessed just because of the cryptic name :-)
What I loved was going to the car boot sales at Carew Castle and Saundersfoot. I sold stuff we longer wanted there for a season and enjoyed it so much, that I set up in reselling of vintage and antique items. I found the castles in Wales impressive, which are nearly all in ruin, as they got 'sliced' on order of Oliver Cromwell, to make them useless. A shame, but it gives the interested individual an idea how they were built, which is amazing. Not sure if modern builders could pull this off today and especially if they had to use the authentic tools of the time. Wales is defo worth visiting and especially Pembrokeshire.
