In your nievity you miss the point yet again.
The fact that it's the going rate, does not mean the CEO is doing the job for your benefit.
It's a known fact that smaller companies that start life on AIM have a dubious track record when it comes to putting shareholders first. Especially exploration companies.
I invested in the assets many years ago and have learned a lot about this type of investment over those years.
Why do you think famous investers like Slater and Buffet always warned against investment in small companies with no profit or dividend payments.
Firstly they are very risking and secondly the management is quite often not good enough.

I know solg are no longer on AIM. But they still retain many of the characteristics? of a AIM company.

Essentially the board tend to do very well, the shareholders not so.

It's very important to be constructively critical of management, not simply read what the company says and believe word for word like Quady advises
The fact that Mather is paid the going rate shows how rigged towards the boards favour that these type of investments tend to be.
It's the going rate for a reason, THEY do very well out of it.

I'm new to investing in investment trusts. I tried looking it up but cant find the answer I'm looking for. Am I right in thinking the fees for trusts are taken out of dividends? if they are what happens when a trust doesn't pay dividends like this one?

I don't want to throw a spanner in the works but, in 8 years invested in solgold, there has been constant talk from the industry of a future copper shortage. It made me laugh because someone years ago said that, years before that, there was talk of the lumming " copper shortage " I'm pretty sure that with the changing of the guard with the Green revolution that lots of copper will be needed.

I think Europe are only a couple of months behind us in real terms.
The reason being, look where we were at xmas. We had 60 k a day infections and we were just going into current lockdown. Look where we are now. Lots of Europe are back in lockdown now. Importantly their numbers are a lot lower than ours were at xmas. 2 months time with hopefully their inoculation programmes ramped right up, the situation will look a whole lot better and we will only be in May. The situation in July/ Aug should be completely different

I plan to sell half my holding next time we see 40p, and trade it.

Even at 4 billion, thats about what they will pay this year alone in dividends. I might be barking up the wrong tree completely, but I don't think money is the problem. We are due a M&A frenzy this year according to the industry experts. I think you could be proved wrong or right this year.

The diverse book has one big caveat= everyone has their price.
If a pound was offered tomorrow. It would very quickly separate the men from the boys, diverse book or no diverse book. In business money always talks!

I don't see what BHP have to lose, they can afford it and it's only going to get more expensive. Unless they what is to pay for it then buy it, but again it's like Buffet haggling over a ford fiesta.

BHP will be paying out over $ 5 B in dividends for this year alone.
I think we are comparing apples with pears when we talk about solg and BHP in the same sentence.
BHP are not waiting to save a few quid for buying solg. In real terms for them the difference really is a few quid.
Either the offer will come soonish or Quady is right!

I don't agree with the cut price offer theory, as I said early. They pay out more in dividends in one year than what most people would think was a great offer ( BHP)
