The latest Investing Matters Podcast with Jean Roche, Co-Manager of Schroder UK Mid Cap Investment Trust has just been released. Listen here.
Well said Linkop. Best wishes to you too: my holding is quietly creeping up - most satisfying as with my few other holdings supported by erudite and reassuring comments from such as yourself on the BBs so looking forward to a remunerative year. As a new person to BBs I remain amazed by some of the b*&*&*ks posted, only worthy of the local rag, and the apparent need for a quickie satisfaction (15 mins in my area, at a cost) but never associated such a desire with an investment portfolio.
Well said Cd : me likewise, and have tucked a few into a holding for young grandson to watch and learn. Also agree about this BB and offer grateful thanks to all those who have contributed information to bolster our resolve when SP looked very wobbly. Let's hope it stays that way without attracting the puerile "commentators" to be found all too often elsewhere. GLALTH.
Well said Trek. Best wishes. Mrs M looking forward to her Orbeo e but I will stick with my Madone and spend on my cellar.
Mrs M starting to firm up on the Ann Summers order. Been some remarkable new developments since the 37p days!
Still here for the week-end: wanted out this time as 37p to c190p gave a fair margin and the gardener puts in more hours at this time of year but Mrs M said don't let the Bar Stewards get you again, have you learned nothing after all these years, and then confessed that she had already sent in the Ann Summers bulk order. So, I declare an after hours pre-weekend RNS that Mr and Mrs M are holding. Just wait til that hits the wires at 7am Monday. IMHO GLALTH HCNY
Still in: mainly because I was persuaded by the convincing words of those who declared that the Cine case was solid. Mrs M said to pull out - she very rarely says that- because it was Cine who broke the contract so no brainer. Before the week-end Mrs M recommended a further sell off of other holdings before war was declared and my portfolio plummeted. How perspicacious! I will continue to read the relevant contributions by the self-declared cognoscenti to BBs with interest. However, I will listen much more closely to the advice of Mrs M with whom I last visited a picture house to see "The Poseidon Adventure" errrm, yes, first time round. She has declared that Cine could give her a bag -full of popcorn and pay her to eat it but 007 must be dead by now so the latest film must be made up, very boring, long, and probably noisy. And how strange to have a man like a spider: ............another glass, my sweet: errrm don't mind if I do: let's put on one of our favourite DVDs
Too right Bz: it's worked well for me.....and still is! But good sound sense never impresses the BB lads it seems.
Mrs M telling me yet again that I should have got out of most holdings before the weekend and a declaration of war which she says always comes at the weekend because all our soldiers go home to get out of it and are on a come down til Tuesday. Now calculating how much larger my portfolio could be had I listened. Tempted to take her advice from now on rather than the detailed predictions and in-depth analysis of the shrewd self-declared market millionaire players who frequent the BBs. And the best of luck to all as ever.
Many thanks El: Don't understand much of it but I believe it reinforces my simple belief from c1.5p that there is a bit of science and entrepreneurial zeal here that makes sense to the common man (and his grandson who has also done nicely thank you). Your erudition is a fine example of a BB that can educate and entertain: as opposed to those who use the facility for propagating b&*&*lls. GLALTHs
Excellent post Tord however I have never been convinced by a belief that charts and statistics determine events: prefer to stick with the idea that events happen for various reasons and on news of a bad event any chart will plummet. Prof Death had prize herds of cattle slaughtered thanks to his chart and his chart has been nowhere near accurate in the last 20years. Nevertheless he is still in a job and on Mejia as charts seem to make money I wish you well. Nice if you can get it. GLALTH
Tried to be objective since 37p BC and will be on board until train is well down the line: sound sense: best wishes.
Doc: I have appreciated your insights - but I certainly don't share your sense of "fun"! As ever...................
aj : I sympathise: I got in at 37p and remember Manic Monday only too well: I wish I had sold at 220p as Mrs M has reminded me ever since. Had I sold and run I would still be well off and have more hair. Also much more relaxed because the tension has been near unbearable over the year and not out of the wood (quite) even now. I blame Doc and people whose insight I continue to trust for my sleepless nights and wine bills.
PS : DYOR : My reference :Stanley Adams : Hoffman- La Roche. His book is now out of print I would guess (or all copies destroyed by the thought police) but not mine! Yours, aka Winston 1984 and 2084!
I am old enough and experienced enough to shudder at the premature euphoria implied by some posters. However, steeled for come what may I would like to add my thanks and best wishes for a prosperous 2022 to those whose researches and insights have been shared on this board; in particular for their exposure of the perils of a BB and AIM. As ever you will know to whom I refer: never before have I stuck with such a volatile holding but from my first acquaintance with SNG, the potential benefits and the knowledge that it was the brainchild of our local University it has been a cause worthy of support. And I am old enough to remember and have experience of the outright screwing of the NHS by Hoffman-La Roche. Plus ca change but just mebbe this time the little people will have their day. DYOR and GLALTHs : see, I am learning! And HNY to A.
Well said Bas. Suspect like me many lths are too long in the tooth to get excited over the short term vagaries. It's going to be an interesting 2022 and not only for Cine. Those who remember the winter of '47 in Darlington will have a Happy Christmas whatever the variants may be plotting. GLA and remember : you make your own luck!
Morning H : Mrs and I had very pleasant hour watching BIDS> Best ride I've had since Manic Monday! Looking forward to another one before long after P3 and then ITX. Best wishes from one long-standing investor to all others.
Well said Acapp, and you as ever Doc : Mr Costs would benefit from a reading of T. Hardy : "Oi don't beelive more 'n arf of wot I'm tolled by them, my sunnies." Have a feeling that Mr Costs could be one of "them" but as a virgin investor - well, since 37p - I respect his view now he has popped up as clearly a very short term holder but I wish him well along with the rest.
Et tu Onetb: And a Happy Festive season to you too: no I'm not woke but didn't want to say Christmas in case the message was subject to deletion. And a Prosperous New Year!
Well said Trek. Only mid-week but Mrs and I will probably stay in for another week-end. Musing upon putting my signed Lance Maillot Jaune up for auction for funds but will stick with present holding and fond memories on the wall. P3 results will increase pressure to invest in Orbea e-bike but Le Geant wouldn't be the same so will stick with my faithful Madone. Quite amazed since 03/20 at the amount of b*****ks herein on occasions but, again, thanks for your insights.
