As the Toral Pb, Zn & Ag project progresses with PFS work we held a press site visit last week and the supportive articles (that will follow bellow) show the benefits of responsibly progressing an underground mining project in an existing mining region. The press day is of course in addition to the meetings and site visits we run with all stakeholder jobs. As we move forward ensuring we communicate not just the employment/economic benefits of Toral but the Projects appropriateness into our community is essential. #sustainability #mining #stakeholders

The plan is prepared by the General State Administration together with the autonomous communities and the cities of Ceuta and Melilla, and it is approved by the government after passing congress and following a hearing. The Strategic environmental evaluation has to be prepared for it to be approved.

Proyecto Toral is a new underground project to obtain metal raw materials located in an area of great mining tradition such as Bierzo. Currently the project is in the research phase, the permission to investigate has a period of 3 years and ends at the end of 2023. It is based on the use of efficient mining practices that allow an environmental recovery of the area from the initial phase of the project, applying in the current research phase international R&D&i standards supported by clusters of researchers from important Spanish universities, as well as with the support of the CDTI.

During this stage Europa Metals Iberia is carrying out technical, economic and environmental studies to be able to develop a sustainable project and with all the corresponding financing guarantees and permits. The next stage will consist of carrying out the most precise detailed engineering and feasibility studies, with which we will request the corresponding permits and which we hope to be able to start it during the next year.

From there, the administrative deadlines would begin to count and, once completed and positive, the company would make the decision to build the mining project. The intention is to make this request not only on the basis of the necessary technical, economic and environmental documentation, but also with the financial guarantees that allow the future development of the project. That's why EMI focuses on taking realistic, safe steps, betting on R&D&i and involving administrations and the local community as much as possible in an open dialogue, to win the confidence of investors and that they feel confident that together we can build a mining project with a long life, according to the demand of the market for these minerals in a wide and thriving spectrum of technological products.

The Europa Metals metallic mining project in Toral de los Vados will generate more than 200 jobs and the waste generated would return to the interior of the earth . These are some of the characteristics of the design presented by the mining company to exploit zinc, lead and silver in El Bierzo, as the head of communication, Elena Feito, explains in this interview.

The environmental impact would be less than that of conventional mining because it would not generate waste dumps, despite moving a total of 17 million tons of land, of which 7 million tons would be useful material for them , according to forecasts, which point to more than ten years of production.

Regarding investment, which so far amounts to three million euros , total figures cannot be anticipated until the initiative is more developed. It is estimated that it will not be able to enter the exploitation phase until at least 2024 or 2025.

The project contemplates the creation of between 200 and 250 direct jobs, to which should be added the indirect ones, which could be five times these figures.

It is an indoor mining system that could serve to 're-engage' former coal workers. The company does not expect to find social rejection of the project and is also willing to show it personally to all interested groups.
