I think you make a good point Daisan.
Not for the first time, many of us were surprised by the announcement of issues that we didn't suspect existed or had thought were resolved. I'm thinking of industrial relations and the quality issues in the production process particularly.
Knowing as we do the excellence that Fortune and his team have brought to the development and execution of his strategic plans, I suspect they've been a bit blindsided by some, er, sub-optimal operational management at Vametco.
The good news, though, is in Fortune's response. The announcement yesterday of a transformation programme, following an externally-led review of the plant's performance, signals very clearly the intention to tackle the issues and the root cause of them with rigour, and not just patch things up by treating the symptoms. The term 'transformation' is consultant-speak for a wide ranging change programme the would usually encompass not only systems and processes, but also human factors and a culture of excellence. I'm up for a bit of that, and look forward to seeing the fruits of it.
I have no doubt that they are coming, although with regard to Vametco I'm probably a bit more realistic about timings than I was a week ago. But then there's Mokopane, Brits, BE, and divis...
