You are quoting figures for Uruguay. Those high AISC costs were the reason they stopped operations at San Gregorio in Uruguay. After mining about 1m oz at the peak, grades in Uruguay dropped with unit costs jumping making SG uneconomic. They have the option to go underground Mining, to source new ore along the entire 100km greenstone belt that OMI own. But they are now focused at Anza in Colombia with Newmont where AISC costs are so low, making even a small discovery very profitable.
Anza is totally different animal and in low cost Colombia.
That is why Newmont is snapping up high grade Gold deposits on the high grade rich mid-cauca belt.
I see all these companies owned by Newmont in coming years. After Peru, Newmont seem determined to dominate Colombia, unless another Major jumps in at some point.
Would be nice to find out who these other suitors were, that Newmont outbid to get 19.9% Equity stake in OMI....which BTW is totally separate from the $30m spending that Newmont has committed as a strategic partnership deal to take Anza to production.
