Thramb, "people who do not need to access their investment by a set time."? Imo that is all of us, as no shares, even ft100, are suitable for those who do, certainly not aim. On another thread, CynderL recommended managed funds, but these too fall when the whole market does. Never sell because you need cash, but because the time &/or price is right to. To guard against unexpected cash calls, keep a chunk of worldly wealth somewhere guaranteed and with easy access, cash ISAs to £85k premium bonds to £50k, whatever you like. They probably won't make you much richer, but if you aren't forced to sell at losses you won't get poorer either. All imo, not qualified for advice, etc., blah...
