For those who lived through & recall the DotCom era, many people were persuaded that the future was 'online', to the exclusion of all else.
New internet companies were being valued on such thing as the number of 'clicks' on their websites. The theory being that one day those 'clicks' would translate into purchases.
Companies whose valuations were in material things like , property, planes, buses, trains, infastructure were cast asside.
Profit making companies who made money daily, weekly, year in year out.
That was late 90's till the bubble burst

Seems familiar to now to me.....imo

Odd. No contrarian views from folks who say the market isn't overpriced & will always continue up

Toff is correct in his opinion re value stocks omo.
The question then moves on, as Vindy says, to at what level these companies become buyable.
As nobody ever wants to sit on a paper loss, we all want to get in at the bottom.
First it was 300p, then 200p....now 100p. The bottom?

None of this really applies to the long term investor who wants to mop up lots of value stocks & tuck them away for 3 - 5 years.....imo

Toff...et al,
So, the Fed are piling trillions of dollars into their economy in order to 'prop it up'. A huge chunk of this is going into Big Tech; Nasdaq/S&P. The respective values of those indices are totally dominated by, say, 6 massive companies.
The result is both indices at all time highs.
So why are we discussing this on a BT message board?
Because IF these markets do turn out to be a bubble ( as Warren Buffett, George Soros & others have predicted ) they will eventually correct/crash. That in turn will/could decimate the FTSE & BT will not be immune...

Re: the virus. It thrives in colder weather. Why we have seen isolated cases in abbatoirs, cold factories here.
When the temperature outside our homes gets down to these temps it may be much harder to contain.

The Market Cap of Zoom (video conferencing) is $77 Billion (that's only a mere £69bn)
The total combined valuations of....
BT £10.5bn
Av £11.3bn
Lgen £13.5bn
Imb £12.4bn
Iag £4.0bn
Sse £13.5bn

Total £65bn...so throw in a few more airlines & maybe they will all together be worth as much as Zoom...
Come on folks....sound familiar? Do any of you remember the DotCom 'bubble'?

It's the fluctuations that are needed for me. I'm well up trading my stocks since March drop.
Been in & out of Av, Lgen, RDSB, HSBA, Imb, Lloy & of corse BT.
Just a tad over 30% after fee's.
Couldn't have done that before Covid.
Have even added IAG to my watch list; the price is all over the place!
It's getting the timing right......

A majority of people in this country do not want to be run by Europe. Fact!
A united states of Europe, with each country having hardly any autonony at all. Far less in fact than the individual states in the US
.....only my view, tho i must say i'm starting to sound like Nigel Farage nowadays.....

Thronegames.....because it was filmed there?
Tell me, is your FTSE performance so poor simply because of the March drop due to Covid 19? If you factor that drop out would your overall FTSE equity return be more reasonable?
Also, is your moving into cash strategy driven by any particular worries? Do you see the US markets having a 'correction', impacting on US equities? Or is there another reason.
Curious to know.....

Not only not joining the Euro, but leaving Europe.
For myself too, 28 years ago, it put a question mark around the idea of a Federal Europe where all helped each other.

Interesting part in the programme when Andrew Neil & friends had dinner with the PM Major prior to Black Wednesday to discuss his Governments ERM plans.
After Major had left they all came to the conclusion that he (Major) had 'lost the plot'.

It's a very interesting 'listen'. A trip down memory lane for us with teeth long enough. Also for those not around at the time to learn. It was a problem entirely of our own making. But when we asked our European 'friends' to help us out they wouldn't.
Interest rates raised from 10%, to 12%, then finally to 15%

ecc....i guess it would depend on whether you think there is going to be a crash/correction in the markets.
If this did happen & your portfolio lost 30%+ of it's value then, as they say, 'cash would be king'...

I enjoyed reading your post Throne, thankyou. I sold out of Lgen @ 304.6 yesterday in the hope of a larger drop than the dividend. Off 8.4 at the close but bought in recently at around the 207 mark (31stJuly), so am going to hang on a little more.

Can i ask you if you, or anyone, has an opinion on a possible correction in the DOW or Nasdaq?
There also seems to me to be a disconnect between these indices & the 'real' world.
