The British Medical Association (BMA) urged on Saturday the United Kingdom's authorities to halve the period between the two doses for Pfizer Inc. and BioNTech SE's vaccine against COVID-19 from twelve to six weeks maximum.
BMA Council Chair, Dr. Chaand Nagpaul, stressed Britain must reconsider its decision based on "guidance from the World Health Organisation" and "the fact that no other nation in the world other than the UK has adopted the 12-week delay."
The association's recommendation comes after the authorities decided to make the gap between two doses of vaccine twelve weeks due to delays in distribution.

Hungary will receive two million doses of Sputnik V, the vaccine against COVID-19 developed by the Gamaleya Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology, which is enough to inoculate one million people, the country's Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto announced on Friday following the meeting with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov.
Szijjarto added the jab would be delivered to Hungary in three stages throughout the next three months. The first delivery is expected to contain 300,000 double doses.
Earlier in the day, Budapest and Moscow reached a deal over the supply of Sputnik V after Hungary became the first member of the European Union to approve it.

Earlier this week, Irish Foreign Minister Simon Coveney stressed discrepancies in post-Brexit regulations were responsible for food shortages in Northern Ireland and not the coronavirus pandemic, as some British politicians claimed. British International Trade Secretary Liz Truss later admitted Brexit had contributed to the issue.
