UK unprepared for EU biometric entry requirements, Lords committee warns Home Secretary

The EU is implementing a new Entry/Exit System which will require biometric enrollment – facial and fingerprint – for non-EU citizens (i.e. post-Brexit British nationals) and an Electronic System for Travel Authorization-like pre-authorization, the European Travel Information and Authorization System. Checks are made against the databases held by Interpol and EU police.
While the EES has been delayed again and is now expected in late summer 2022,

Since Brexit every single passport has to be stamped and checked upon return as only 90 days is allowed for a third country (UK) within the EU.
Otherwise a visa is required.

The European Central Bank (ECB) decided on Thursday to raise key interest rates by 50 basis points, marking the first rate hike since 2011. The interest rate on the main refinancing operations and the interest rates on the marginal lending facility and the deposit facility will be increased to 0.50%, 0.75% and 0.00% respectively, with effect from 27 July 2022, the ECB said.
"The frontloading today of the exit from negative interest rates allows the Governing Council to make a transition to a meeting-by-meeting approach to interest rate decisions. The Governing Council’s future policy rate path will continue to be data-dependent and will help to deliver on its 2% inflation target over the medium term," the bank explained.
The ECB also decided to approve the Transmission Protection Instrument (TPI), whose role will be to "ensure that the monetary policy stance is transmitted smoothly across all euro area countries" by countering "unwarranted, disorderly market dynamics that pose a serious threat to the transmission of monetary policy." Finally, it will "continue reinvesting, in full, the principal payments from maturing securities purchased under the asset purchase program for an extended period of time past the date when it starts raising the key ECB interest rates and, in any case, for as long as necessary to maintain ample liquidity conditions and an appropriate monetary policy stance."

The Nord Stream 1 gas pipeline resumed its operation early on Thursday, after being closed for annual maintenance work for ten days, a Nord Stream AG spokesperson told the German Press Agency.
According to a Nord Stream AG spokesperson, the gas delivery should be the same as it was before the servicing, totaling 67 million cubic meters per day, which corresponds to 40% utilization of the maximum capacity. However, as full capacity is gradually restored, the notified quantities may change throughout the day. Meanwhile, Head of the German Federal Network Agency Klaus Muller stated on Twitter that approximately 30% of the capacity has been restored.
Previously, the European Union was concerned that Moscow would not resume gas deliveries through the Nord Stream 1 pipeline, which delivers Russian gas into the Union, with the EU's top diplomat Josep Borrell warning that the bloc should brace itself for a gas cut-off.
