RE: China, Semiconductor trade war.4 Jul 2023 22:33
A spokeswoman for the European Commission said that the European Union is worried that China's latest decision to restrict the exports of certain rare metals used in the chip-making process, more specifically germanium and gallium, is not related "to the need to protect the global peace."
During a media briefing, the spokeswoman shared that although Beijing insists that the move was made in order for security and national interests to be preserved, the bloc doesn't seem convinced, as it has labeled both of the materials as "strategic" for its green transition.
Meanwhile, earlier, European Commissioner for the Internal Market Thierry Breton shared on his Twitter account that the bloc and Japan have agreed to strengthen cooperation in the chip area and set up an "early warning mechanism" to prevent any disruptions to the supply chains, "notably in critical raw materials components."
