Major European markets closed higher on Monday as investors continued to assess the latest speeches of Fed Chairman Jerome Powell and European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde during the Jackson Hole economic symposium.
In both cases, the bank's leaders signaled that they were maintaining their hawkish stance and determination to bring inflation back to the 2% target.
At the close, the German DAX rose 1.06%, with Zalando SE being the best performer, up 2.53%. The French benchmark CAC 40 added 1.39%, while Teleperformance improved by 5.19%. Finally, the pan-European Euro Stoxx 50 improved by 1.36%, and Santander led the gains, up by 2.87%. The FTSE 100 was closed today due to a holiday.
On the currency front, the euro advanced by 0.10% against the dollar at 5:28 pm CET, selling for $1.08066. In comparison, the pound was flat to go for $1.25844 simultaneously.
