A drop in defence spending sees Minister resign16 Mar 2024 11:26
Minister for the Armed Forces of United Kingdom James Heappey announced his resignation at the end of March in a letter addressed to his local association, citing "time to step away from politics, prioritise my family, and pursue a different career," The Times reported on Friday.
"The opportunity to serve the communities within the Wells constituency for the last nine years has been the greatest honour of my life," the Iraq, Afghanistan and Northern Ireland veteran added.
As a Member of Parliament (MP) for the Wells Constituency, Heappey will be stepping down from his government role and will not be participating in the next general election. His decision comes after he voiced his frustration with colleagues regarding the need for increased funding in defence.
