Some good comments.

It’s not unusual within the oil sector for a rotation between stocks.

Eg from one company to another because

1) it may be nearer results day.

2) nearer div payment.

3) more oil% or gas % depending on how prices are going.

4) because of profit taking.

Etc.

So they only follow when they follow, but they do tend to trend together over time.

An interesting read.

Conclusion at least a third of traders don’t really know what they are doing.

They just copy others.

Also recently finished”Moneyland by Oliver Bullouch” which someone had left on a book swap table.

It follows the flows of offshore money( both legit and criminal).

When you read the comments page on US based investment items on BP it has a lot of negative comments.

I think it’s still fall out from the oil spill etc.

“BUT” it does make me wonder if a move to US would really solve everything

It would appear from RNS info, that all the recent rise in sp has been without any buybacks.(last buyback RNS 18 th December)

Bloomberg) -- BP Plc’s Greater Tortue Ahmeyim project started producing gas from offshore fields in Senegal and Mauritania, and both countries expect deliveries soon in a boost to economic growth.

The $4.8 billion GTA project, developed by BP and Kosmos Energy Ltd., is estimated to produce about 2.3 million tons of liquefied natural gas a year in its first phase. The gas will flow from wells in deep water — depths of up to 2,850 meters — to a floating storage vessel where it will be processed.

Flows to the floating project have commenced and LNG deliveries are now expected to begin “very soon,” Senegal and Mauritania’s energy ministries said in a joint statement on Dec. 31.

Exports of gas from the long-delayed project may provide another fillip to Senegal after the West African nation began exporting oil last year. That helped lift the growth rate to a record 8.9% in the three months through September and the International Monetary Fund forecasts the economy will grow 9.3% this year.

The expansion provides an opportunity to fix public finances in a nation that’s likely to see a budget shortfall of more than 11% of GDP in 2024. Senegal plans to reduce its budget deficit to 3% of gross domestic product by 2027 by cutting government expenditure and boosting tax collections from 2025, Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko said last week.

The GTA project is expected to produce LNG for more than 20 years, according to BP’s website.

2025 is the start of the next 5 year plan.

Some have been stunning successes,some not so much.

This one needs to “ blow the bloody doors off”.

This could be the most important year in BPs history

Short answer almost everyone.

Due to BPs sp performance almost all oil companies have done better in last couple of years.

US oiliers have huge sp benefit,but many are or have left North Sea already.

Venture capitalists could buy up if they already had done deals to sell of parts ( ie the sum of the parts are worth more than the total).

Any European oiler could see value, and consolidation.

And finally most likely would be Shell.

This is the least problem politically, and probably a reasonable fit, but so far no one looks to be ready to bit
