It will allow for the construction of the pipeline infrastructure necessary to pipe natural gas to properties in the vicinity of the towns. The capital investment for the project will be more than £3 million and, over time, it will make gas potentially available to around 2,250 domestic and commercial customers within area.. An additional 28,000 homes and businesses in Co Down will soon benefit from natural gas as part of a £60m expansion plans by the utility firm to pipe into 13 new towns.

HISTORICAL PROJECT COSTS .............................. Expenditure of £11M to date - To date the Islandmagee Gas storage development has cost about £11M. This relates to the acquisition of 3-D seismic data, drilling the Islandmagee-1 well (£3.8M), laboratory core analysis, engineering design work and acquiring land rights, planning permission and other permits. The EU provided a grant of £2M for the Islandmagee-1 drilling and core analysis programme. The grant effectively recognised the strategic importance of the Islandmagee Gas storage project in terms of enhancing energy security in two member countries and supporting policy on renewable power generation.

5.1.3 - Development of the Islandmagee Underground Gas Storage (UGS) facility at Larne (Northern Ireland) Cluster PCI 5.1.3 - belonging to cluster 5.1: Cluster to allow bidirectional flows from Northern Ireland to Great Britain and Ireland and also from Ireland to United Kingdom Type of technology employed IMSL plans to create eight caverns, capable of storing up to a total of 500 million cubic metres of gas. This facility will safeguard Northern Ireland''s ability to meet the increasing peak of demand whilst also providing security of supply to Ireland and Great Britain. Implementation status Permitting Financial assistance under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) 2014 Islandmagee Gas Storage Facility - Drilling borehole to obtain salt sample and subsequent testing, analysis and design development 2015 Study Front End Engineering; Design Study and Insitu Downhole Testing. ................................ Both the borehole drilling to obtain core samples and downhole testing analysis previously carried out by Infrastrata back in 2014/15 should imo greatly assist with the ongoing FEED phase. Hopefully the use of already available core samples and available seismic data will help the FEED to be completed quickly and perhaps under budget?

Hi Jabido - the first couple of paragraphs regarding the gas to the west expansion were from the SGN natural gas website on the contractor portal section - the rest is my view on the necessity for the project to be developed given our increased reliance on gas and how demand is likely to increase significantly in the future :)

Overall gas demand in Spain had grown by about 11.6% compared with May last year, reaching 26,255 GWh, largely driven by the industrial sector and some larger gas deliveries for power generation.

Nice bit of consolidation now seller out the way this looks primed to move back up with decent buys at this level so clearly interest here - nazareme no one here doubts your commitment to the cause for sea gens and renewable energy in general but it will never work and will never help to keep the lights on especially considering gas accounts for at least 50% of electricity generation and likely to increase - especially so in Ireland considering they want to phase out coal, peat and also reduce dependency on oil....
