Very interesting SEA7. Seems the model used is different in each location. The city of Cape Town is funding the road improvements (confirmed in the press release by the looks of it). Seems that the organising fee for Montreal is $1.5 m Canadian dollars = £880,000 so the organising contract could be worth almost double the lvcg market cap.

Given that they have started organising the race already I’m also wondering when that organising fee kicks in too.

Why a drop? Those who were spooked by the delay sold on Tuesday morning by the looks of it.

I’m more interested that they signed a long term multi year contract to organise the race. Noting that they get paid an organising fee I wonder how much that is worth?

But worth noting they also make revenue from sponsorship for which they have exclusive rights (confirmed in the press release)

Cape Town E-Prix to debut in 2023

Following the ratification of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship’s Season 8 calendar by the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), e-Movement (Pty) Ltd and Formula E have today confirmed Cape Town will host its first ABB FIA Formula E World Championship E-Prix in 2023.*

Formula E and e-Movement (Pty) Ltd have agreed that due to the ongoing impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic that continues to be felt in South Africa and internationally, the inaugural Cape Town E-Prix is set to be staged in Season 9, rather than season 8 as originally intended, and signaling the start of the five-year commitment to host E-Prix in Cape Town.

e-Movement (Pty) Ltd and Formula E entered into a multi-year agreement to host the world’s only all-electric FIA World Championship in 2021 and remain committed to delivering a world-class event. As part of this vision, there will be a number of key moments in 2022 including the track reveal and an e-Investment seminar to map out a 10-year programme of strategies to drive the e-mobility economic sector and the positive effects on climate change.

Co-founder and Chief Championship Officer of Formula E Alberto Longo said, “While we are of course disappointed to postpone our first race in Cape Town, we have received a hugely positive response from those in our ecosystem, all of which are excited to visit. Over the past 18 months, we have learned to be dynamic and flexible when delivering the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship and we look forward to working alongside our local partners to experience Cape Town when delivering its maiden race in 2023.”

Iain Banner, the Chairman of race promoters e-Movement (Pty) Ltd, said: “We have signed a long-term agreement with Formula E to stage the Cape Town E-Prix and look forward to delivering a marquee event for many years to come. So true. The challenge investors face every single day trying to work out if a share will go up/down or trade sideways; its always what’s ahead that matters most.

Noting too that they have circa 25 touring sets of various sizes already built and capital costs paid for over the past few years, so all the recent rental announcements are providing cash directly into the company . Their biggest sets are Brickosaurs, Supersize and the one just rented to easy park. All three of those are now booked solid until next summer, binging in between £120/150k a month. Then there is the cycling event that took place over the weekend that will have brought in more than £200k of cash. Having had a good summer too LVCG must be easily on track to well exceed their 2020 revenue.

What’s important in this rental (aside from being a big set that brings in revenue over the winter period of course) is that its a whole new type of partner and market in the USA for their touring product, expanding beyond the market they opened up in Zoos.

SEA7 posted a link back on 28 Aug about the CTSGPSA “bid” for formula e back on 28 Aug which I commented on too, so claiming that it hasn’t been highlighted is total nonsense. The only thing that seems strange to me is why someone who sold out of their position would keep coming back to comment, but each to their own.

It does seem that the Chairman is pretty well connected in the media industry (if you look at his DV he was at Sky broadcasting) and can pull in the sponsors/partners. Bodes well for sponsorship in the future IMO.

The bricklive Houston has been briefly mentioned in an RNS (the interims) but the duration or content of the tour. I understand that on occasion they have a request from their partners not to highlight that they are doing a tour so as not to alert the competition of the partners. The new partner in the USA for the Houston event looks to have properties right across the USA so could be a very valuable customer in the future (and what we have seen in the past is that once people have seen the effects of the pull in footfall of theses models they keep coming back.
