The only reason I can see for this joint statement that isn’t a joint statement,is the CWU have some info and they want to get an agreement ASAP,I would be gob smacked if Royal Mail agree anything like what’s been proposed by the CWU.
If this is a fishing exercise then it’s a massive own goal.
I suppose you could say never say never,but I would suggest there’s more chance of a first class letter getting to its destination by next year.

@Maximas1 - Looks like CWU have finally caved. Obviously not the way CWU will present it but they've essentially issued a letter saying CWU are available at the click of a finger to RM if they wish to negotiate further. Just say the magic words and we'll call off the strike action.

There's no harm for RM to enter into further negotiations regardless of their success. Perhaps RM staff and the CWU have started to realise the focus of the British Public's frustration has started to fall on the RM employees and the CWU.

Hopefully the CWU will stop their aggressive negotiation tactics which ultimately have only added fuel to the fire thus far.

I have read this statement 3 times,is it me,am I missing something here….
Cwu have had no contact what so ever with the board.

Then the cwu putting out a statement saying they will stop strikes if these conditions are met.

Now if I was to sit on the fence for a minute,this looks like the union wanting to find an agreement desperately…..or am I not seeing something everyone else is.

I wrote to you last Friday, making it clear CWU were available to meet you this week to resolve our disputes and avoid the need for any further strike action.

Your failure to respond or make any contact, once again calls into question your personal commitment to reaching an agreement.

Similarly, Stuart MacDonald’s latest letter, written for the public domain, also fails to respond to the need for a meeting.

If it really is the company’s intention to avoid further strike action – then you and your Executive Board must finally accept that engaging in meaningful negotiations is the only way forward.

Boxing the company in to a so called “best and final offer” and then making further concessions direct to employees, just reinforces the view of the entire workforce that RMG’s leadership cannot be trusted.

Our members know that your “no compulsory redundancy statement” is meaningless, unless it is part of an overall agreement, including a resolution to all outstanding issues. Until this happens you will never break the spirit and resolve of our members.

If you and your board truly want to act in the interests of employees, customers and the future of the company, then it’s time to ditch your obsessive worker and union busting tactics and get back round the table with an open mind – the CWU are committed to doing likewise.

I would also urge you to stop boasting about you £1.7 billion war chest to take on the union and instead use that money to invest in our members and a joint growth strategy.

Finally, in the spirit of trying to do everything possible to reach an agreement, CWU is making a fresh offer through the attached joint statement, to not only suspend this weeks planned strike action, but to also implement a period of calm from now until the 16th January 2023 – enabling us to conclude a final agreement.

We are available to meet you later today or tomorrow to finalise an agreed joint statement. We would need to confirm such a statement has been agreed no later than 12 noon on Thursday 22nd December.

RMG AND CWU JOINT STATEMENT FOR AN INTERIM STEP TOWARDS A FULL AGREEMENT (COVERING ROYAL MAIL, PARCELFORCE AND FLEET)
Introduction

RMG and CWU have agreed the following which demonstrates significant progress towards resolving the current disputes, enabling the cancellation of the strikes planned for 23rd/24th December and the implementation of a period of calm until the 16th January 2023, to resolve all outstanding issues and conclude a final agreement. These further talks will be facilitated by ACAS.

Both parties confirm this Joint Statement has the full support of the RMG Executive Board and CWU Postal Executive.

They do seem to get a bit later on here nowadays,must be those late finishes,I do find it funny when they think there’s good news for the posties,there fingers get typing,but it’s usualy shot down by Royal Mail within a few hours,then it’s all quiet again…

Wow,if you only have 45% I would say that’s not good,throw into that it was 5 days ago,add to that another poll at the end of the month once Xmas is done,I would suggest your going to lose the public,if that has not happened already.

So Royal Mail employees are up in arms as there sick pay has been stopped.
Many are complaining,everyone who went sick the day before,or after a strike day,not only loses the strike days,but also don’t get paid the sick days.

There are also reports people that are on long term sick have stopped being paid,the down side is the union are pointing everyone towards acas,then tribunal,the bad bit for the employee is that this can take months and months.

So you have employees now going mad lol,get it in the papers lol,they carnt do that can they..lol.

Now here’s the funniest bit,you now have those that were on the sick going back in,you will also have those thinking about it not now doing it.

Now the union may say get a claim in,bla,bla,bla,but the employee is getting stung in the pocket now.

Royal Mail if there doing some thing wrong will have to pay it back at some point,but here’s the genius bit…
Just look now at all the sick returning to work,Royal Mail are no longer paying them for being at home,there back in work,so….that means a win win…

Royal Mail are no longer giving money away,there getting something back,so any future back pay has already been paid for as all the posties are back in,all fit as a fiddle lol.

I watched Sky News at lunchtime. They hosted a discussion between a striking post woman and the owner of a small businesses. The latter was complaining that the Royal Mail strikes were costing him money as Evri and DPD were "a couple of pounds per item" more expensive which rather begs the question as to whether RM UK would have originally been in financial difficulty if they had upped their prices back in January to screw a little more out of the customer in order to negate the £1m a day loss? The maths is probably a little simplistic but you get the drift.

Being cynical I could say that to justify there saying there skint,and have ulterior motives that they are progressing to,reducing the price of parcels by £2 till the new year is another matter stroke

Royal Mail have knocked £2 off the price of a 2 kilo parcel since the strikes started just I suspect to keep work coming in.

Well,mr ward has called today a defining moment,all the flag wavers,all the I hate Simon,Simon out songs,all the tv interviews,the nice walk through London,for a minute I thought it was Notting hill carnival.
This is it,this is as good as it gets,this I’d the cherry on the cake.
So after the posties have had a good sleep due to using up more calories in a day than they usually do in a week,where has it got them,and has it helped.
Well,it helped the coach firms,the rail firms,the coffee shops,McDonald’s,the flag making workers,and the makers of radox.
Did it make a massive difference to what’s coming.

If one thing is remembered from this,it’s the big Dave the bone catcher,still has no bone,and would not settle for 50% pay rise lol.
One down,5 to go,then the realisation we have lost a few grand in pay,lost our terms and conditions,and executive action is going to be forced upon the workforce quicker than a postie waving a flag with I surrender on it.
