IN HUNDRED ACRE WOOD – DAYTIME
Winnie the Pooh is lounging under a honey tree, enjoying a pot of honey. Dozer is slowly making his way over, his rear end dragging in the mud.
Pooh: Oh, hello there, Dozer. How are you on this fine day?
Dozer: (with a sigh) Same as always, Pooh. Just trying to keep my backside from getting too muddy. It's a slow business.
Pooh: Slow, you say? Funny you should mention slow. I was thinking about something slow too.
Dozer: (raising an eyebrow) Slow, you say? What slow thing might that be, Pooh?
Pooh: Well, unfortunately it is money not honey-related, but it's quite interesting. You see, I was looking at the newspaper and noticed something about a mining company in Africa. The share prices seem to be moving rather slowly.
Dozer: (pausing) Share prices, you say? Mining company, you say? Sounds like a riveting tale.
Pooh: Yes, quite riveting indeed. I thought we could discuss it. The shares are moving so slowly, it's almost like they're having a race with a snail.
Dozer: (sarcastically) A race with a snail, you say? How thrilling. I bet the snail is winning.
Pooh: (nodding) Quite likely, Dozer. It made me wonder, what do you think about slow-moving shares?
Dozer: (looking at the ground) Well, Pooh, it's like watching the paint dry on a gloomy day. You know it's happening, but it's hard to get excited about it.
Pooh: (thoughtfully) Yes, it's a bit like waiting for honey to drip from a jar that's not quite tipped enough. Patience is the key.
Dozer: (nodding) …. and a good deal of gloominess, Pooh. But who knows, maybe one day those shares will reach 9 pence. Or not. Life is full of surprises, or lack thereof.
Pooh: (smiling) Quite right, Dozer. Life is like a slow-moving share price - you never quite know where it will take you. Perhaps we should invite Minor Miner and the others for a discussion. They might have some thoughts on the matter.
Dozer: (raising an eyebrow) Discussion, you say? Sounds like another slow and gloomy affair. I’d rather find a plot in the wood for my wendy house.
Pooh: (pensively) Why don’t you ask Piglet and Eeyore to help you find somewhere in the shade of a big dark tree, a long way away?
And so, Pooh and Dozer, in their own peculiar way, continued their day in the Hundred Acre Wood, contemplating the mysteries of slow-moving share prices and the unpredictable nature of life.
In the mid 80s I used to commute from Slough to Paddington on British Rail’s finest rolling stock. Like ZIOC, it was cheap, it was late, and the doors didn’t lock on departure. If you were smart and nimble, you could still jump aboard a moving train with enough time to give the finger to the platform staff, take a seat and kick back.
Unlike then, the 20.24 ZIOC express will be first class only, doors locked until arrival! A few advance one-way tickets still on sale online only. No station staff available to help etc. etc. GLA
The total number of posts I ever make here may never get to double digits, but as a very quiet LTH with significant skin in the game (3m+) in ZIOC, and 5+ years watching, waiting, wondering and wishing... I feel prompted to make a quiet and brief entrance into this forum.
I have not sold a single share since I first bought. I have no great experience investing, no expertise in this sector, but I do have a strong conviction that this share is going places.... very soon.
I've stuck with the highs and (mainly) the lows, and will stay stuck until my conviction is borne out by news and numbers.
The main reason for propping my heading above the parapet is to thank the regular posters who have helped me keep the faith; there is an amazing abundance of knowledge and expertise greater than the sum of its individual posters - thank the lord, but without exception my heartfelt thanks go out to all of you. For better or worse, once all this comes good, hindsight will provide a few laughs when I look back at your posts. If I had half the conviction some of you have, and half the sense, my life would already be a multi-bagger.
