RE: Wow! JPM9 Jan 2026 11:45
Hi ned...got it slightly wrong but...
JPM own 5.05% shares and have bought equity swaps to the value of over 0.09% of SOLG shares.
That means that a holder of 2,838,580 has agreed to swap the voting rights and any potential capital gains in exchange for JPM paying a rate of interest on the principal amount.
In effect the counterparty has potentially 'presold' their shares at a given price if or when a takeover is successful without having to sell them in the market.
But it also means that JPM have a 155 million share bet on a counterbid and they can also vote those rights. (Current bet value £43 million...
Meanwhile Qbe has been decreasing its long position in SOLG equity swaps by 2 million plus but it still has a 69 million share 'bet' on a counterbid and...
SocGen has interestingly placed a two way bet by buying 10.17 million shares and simultaneously opening a short in the exact same number and price so it is now long of 32.5 million and short of 28.1 million, giving it a matched long position of 4.1 million shares and a pretty large two way bet...
So overall it looks like quite a lot of money is riding on a counterbid, making it increasingly harder for JCC to get 75% in the General Meeting...
Surely a counterbid in the next week...?
