RE: Interferon screening8 Feb 2021 13:59
Alpha, Many of the dots surrounding interferon and covid are now joined up. The science is comprehensive. These are just snippets of papers form the past month!
- But this latest research shows that it is predominantly the short ACE2, which lacks the viral binding site, that is increased in response to interferons. Since levels of the longer form of ACE2 remain unchanged, interferons do not appear to boost entry points for the virus, supporting their use in treating COVID-19 patients. (Southampton Uni 2021)
- Structural Variations in IFNAR1 that Correlate with COVID-19 Severity (Rockafella 2021)
-Higher levels of type I interferons, as well as the induction of trained immunity and local mucosal immunity also contribute to lower risk of infection (Pathogen paper 2021).
- Demonstration that SARS-CoV-2 is able to inhibit RIG-I mediated IFN-b production. (Sweden 2021)
- Understanding of the immunobiology of COVID-19 have provided key insights into the centrality of interferons in the immune response against severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (Lancet Rheumatology paper 2021)
The world's drug governing bodies need to pull their fingers out of their preverbal and follow the science. They provided EUA based on a benefit vs risk basis for vaccines. They need to apply the same principle now towards interferon treatments. Too many lives are being needlessly lost!
