Home vs Hospital setting7 Aug 2021 09:54
I see there was some debate about this last night. Here's my thoughts.
The UK, one of the most vaccinated countries in the world, currently has daily hospital admissions for covid at around 750-800 people, with daily infection rates in the 20-30k range......... in the middle of summer! I think we all know these numbers will be greater in winter when you combine the myriad of other respiratory viral infections that occur. This to me says there is still a very real need to be able to treat patients at home that would normally be treated in hospital, otherwise the whole health system will implode each winter, with little scope for catching up in summer (5k beds currently occupied in the UK with covid patients). When you look at this on a worldwide basis it is quite a scary proposition for the health authorities to try and deal with.
So I still see a very large opportunity for use of SNG001 to treat people in the home environment for patients that are in quite bad shape. I don't think we can fill up our hospitals with breathless patients each winter with people who will be taking nebulised interferon when they could be taking this drug at home. Diagnosis and some from of O2 monitoring will be key but SNG001 does provide an option for freeing up hospital beds.
Thoughts?
