As I'm against fracking, given what is currently known/ unknown and also as this is a public forum, then I suppose you could call me a protester. But more of the armchair sort. I do not want my shares in Alkane to fall, but I would be happier if they had no links to shale.

Steak - could only be a meat eater :))) I'm not a de-ramper, I hold Alkane who took a stake in EDR in exchange for shale gas rights. I was disappointed when Alkane got into shale as I like the idea of their methane to electric model. I have asked Alkane to consider selling their share in EDR, but I wont have any influence. I do have socialist sympathies, tho a bit hypocritical of me, as I hold shares too. Not esp a tree hugger tho I do care about the environment. IMO the economic viability of shale in UK could be as much a drawback as the environmental issues. Gas (oil) price needs to be high for it to work, I believe. Also, not saying I'm correct, just a different point of view. I remain to be convinced of safety (re water supply) of shale gas exploration. Have a read of the articles, even if they re-enforce your current opinion. Cheers. MU

Sorry kit, I wont be signing. I hold ALK but was disappointed when they got involved in fracking. Saw ALK as possibly good for environment for "recycling" damaging methane into electricity from disused coal mines. It is one thing to frack in US with its large land mass, but even there I understand there have been environmental problems. In theory it might seem like a good idea, but I remain to be convinced of its safety.

Alkane doesn't strike me as a company that would willfully break any rules. Of course, someone could have broken rules through lack of competence/ experience. But again that would seem unlikely, to me.

If that 5,000,000 trade yesterday was a buy (prob was). That was a steal!

Basil: first thanks for many posts. I enjoy reading them and try to understand most of the content. I have held ALK on and off for over 5 years. Usually make a small profit. I'm often reluctant to sell, cos like you I am a fan. I think getting into shale was a mistake, not least for me, cos this went against the environmentally friendly ethos of ALK of methane to elec. As a racing fan as well, I had to remind myself of Dream Alliance. Came back from serious inj to win Welsh National. There was a piece on One Show recently about the story. Also believe, there is a film to follow.

Just to back up what others are saying: Emergency measures to fire up mothballed power stations could be used to keep the lights on this winter, after a series of power plant fires and closures left Britain more vulnerable to blackouts. National Grid announced on Tuesday that it would begin recruiting idle or mothballed power plants, which would be paid to ensure they could fire up if needed as a "last resort". - The Telegraph

SMMT new UK regs for Optare were 41 in July (up 32% on July 13), but total purpose built buses were up 70%. Again, all our new regs were in 8-12t. The larger 12-16t and double decker new regs were up 78% and 120%. The sooner we start selling into those sectors, the better . Still at least the numbers were up, though they may fall back down if there was/ is any factory holiday over July / Aug. (Can't remember what they agreed after industrial action). Obv excludes any exports! Also, don't place to much emphasis on one month's figures.

We now have the q1 "sales" figures (units) for FY 14/15. That is: 68 units (compared to 76 units for same period last year). In addition, we know that up to end of FY 13/14 there were 15 units sold to Australia, with orders for 30 more. Also, as at Mar 31 2014, order book was £28.4m (compared to £12.3m at the same time last year). I am hoping that the annual report will give us more detail and update us on orders and exports. Any views?
