You can't believe how pleased I am to be irritating you. You are the people who would rather be spending your gas bill on gas from countries whose population are accused of supporting ISIS than on generating employment and reducing CO2 emissions in the UK by supporting shale exploration here.

Improving worldwide oil and commodity market, and falling Weir SP in spite of positive half-year report. Long established well run company with good reputation. Surely this makes it a takeover target for either a competitor or a major private finance company looking for a reliable income stream.

You sound a bit bitter mate. I bought some of my Igas shares at 130+. If Cuadrilla had done their 3D seismic properly and not drilled into a fault and the Saudis hadn't decided to try to outprice US shale then we'd all be in clover now but we're not. I don't really blame the company. I agree a more balanced portfolio would have been helpful, I have Igas, Egdon and Weir, also keeping an eye on Hurricane. Good luck.

RNS - planning application validated at Ellesmere Port, now just months and months of planning permission wrangling,,,, aargh!! "IGas Energy plc is pleased to announce that its planning application for a proposed project at its site in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire has been validated by Chester West and Chester Council ("CWaC"). The proposed project is to carry out further tests on the rock formation called the Pentre Chert, including a flow test, to better understand the volumes of gas it contains. Subject to the receipt of planning consent and the relevant environmental permits, this operation will utilise the existing well and no additional drilling will be required."

Not sure if relevant but this appeared on the Daily Express news feed around the time of the SP rise. But no effect on EDR price so SP rise might be something more Igas specific. Threats to Qatari LNG exports equals UK winter supplies in the excrement. Risk premium being bought into Igas price.

Yes quite a lot of people have lost money including myself. That doesn't alter the fact that UK shale gas is still a very good prospect and we are at last getting to the point where the viability of the enterprise can be really evaluated. If Third and Cuadrilla make a go of it then the share should really move ahead which will repay LT holders and be a real benefit to UK Plc (and reduce our carbon footprint), at a time when a spur to the economy is sorely needed.

Why UK energy security is important via companies like IGAS. ...... Press reports say the US and the EU are on collision course over Russia pipeline sanctions. The U.S. apparently want to punish Putin for interference in the recent Presidential election. However some on the EU, especially in Germany see the move as a way of grabbing LNG market share for the US. The EU may take retaliatory action especially if the new Nordstream 2 pipeline is effected. Given that the loss of Rough storage means the UK is more dependent than ever, beginning this winter, on LNG imports at short notice then any disruption to international trade in LNG could threaten our supplies. It may be that Trump will spite the EU by favouring UK supplies but given that our gas system is part of a wider European market it may be difficult to insulate ourselves from an US/EU spat.

Auntie, It's good of you to admit that you have no particular objection to hydraulic fracturing per se. The shale gas industry is being watched to the Nth degree, far more than any comparable small industrial project. Bye.

The Australian government (Labour) has just released the interim results of an independent report into fraccing, they are positive.... 1. “The major recommendations, consistent with other Australian and International reviews, is that the environment risks associated with hydraulic fracturing can be managed effectively subject to the creation of a robust regulatory regime.” 2. “Having regard to the substantive weight of agreed expert opinion, the Inquiry finds that there is no justification whatsoever for the imposition of a moratorium on hydraulic fracturing in the Northern Territories" In the same week speakers at a US conference estimated that existing shale gas reserves worldwide are so immense that if we we consume at the current rate we have enough gas for 200 years with the likelihood that this young technology will progress to the point where that will be an underestimate.

Auntie, I'm sure you're not bothered but this paragraph is from the National Grid's recent document "future energy scenarios" "Gas is critical to security of supply now and as Britain continues the transition to a low carbon future. It will have a long-term role as a flexible, reliable and cost-effective energy source favoured by many consumers." Please also note that shale gas is already in the UK energy system via imported LNG. Actually this is quite serious, all our nuclear power stations will be gone by 2035, North Sea supplies are in decline, and Norwegian supplies are also in (slower) decline. Uncertainties about carbon pricing and the carry-over from the low oil price means investment in gas exploration has been low (but is improving). Currently there is a glut of worldwide LNG (coming from conventional methods as in Qatar, and shale gas as in the USA) but almost all countries are responding either to a climate change or pollution agenda and replacing coal with imported LNG so the price will probably rise and or move into shorter supply. Wind & Solar cannot take up the slack until battery technology is better advanced, even Elon Musk is running short of batteries for his Tesla car manufacture. All in all UK energy is not in a good place so if you care about your children's future then think about where our base load of energy is going to come from over the next 40 years or so.

News that the attacks on suppliers by Cuadrilla protesters (and presumably therefore a higher threat assessment) has led to an increased 24 hour police presence at the Preston Road site. Police have been bussed in from other parts of the country to cover the extra workload. The road outside the site has had to be closed at least once because protesters had locked themselves together in the roadway outside. That won't endear them to local people. But I'll say something for 'em - green bladders must be strong bladders.

You wait for ages and then 2 RNS's come along at once. Expected appeal against stupid planning decision and .... "Issue of environmental permits for Biscathorpe-2 Exploration Well Egdon Resources plc (AIM:EDR) is pleased to announce the issue by the Environment Agency of the environmental permits required for the planned operated Biscathorpe-2 exploration well on PEDL253 in Lincolnshire. The prospect is located between Lincoln and Louth on the southern margin of the Humber Basin on trend with and to the west of the producing Keddington oil field (14 kilometres, Egdon operated) and the Saltfleetby gas field (20 kilometres). The Biscathorpe-2 well will target a down-dip area of the structure tested by the crestal Biscathorpe-1 well in 1987 by BP which found oil in a 1.2 metres thick sandstone of Westphalian (Carboniferous) age. The sandstone is expected to thicken to the north and east from the original well and the structure has been mapped using reprocessed 3D seismic data. The Mean Gross Prospective Resources at Biscathorpe are estimated by Egdon to be c. 14 million barrels of oil ("mmbo") and the well has been assessed by the Company as having a 40% chance of success. " So more positive news. Apparently big oilies want to keep production projects simple in these $50 a barrel "lower for longer" days, so once the planning appeal is settled Egdon will surely be a takeover target. If I remember rightly that in fact was Egdon;s objective, build themselves sup to a certain size and then sell off to a larger concern to take the projects forward.
