Headline in UK Daily Mail today "Blackout Britain?"

Predictions of blackouts in the UK this winter due to shortage of gas and electricity due to dependence on "renewables" when the sun does not shine and there is no wind.

If the UK is short of power why would they send Ireland gas from Moffat? Surely they will want it all for themselves?

And he is going to build it in a year.

And, given his comments on Tuesday, when is it ever the business of the government how much it costs to drill a well and his comments that 130 wells have been drilled in Ireland with 3 finds fades into total insignificance when you consider they drilled 6,000 in the North Sea.

Barry Cowen, TD for Laois-Offaly is not too happy with, amongst others, The Department for the Environment, aka Eamon Ryan as he says they have all been "sleeping at the wheel".

It seems Ryan refused a meeting with the developer who wanted to develop the LNG terminal in Shannon even though Varadkar met him.

Interesting anomaly where Ryan is refusing to sign off on the lease but is still charging the license fees for the licenses.

In December 2021 he collected €27,407 for the six months ending then but for the first six months of 2022 he collected €309,472. These amounts were collected for "lease, licence or permit rentals".

So is Ryan collecting revenues for something he has refused to do? In my book, that is illegal.

People have forgotten that Providence does not own Barryroe. It was transferred to Exola and is still owned between Exola and Lansdowne.

And while Exola is a wholly owned subsidiary of Providence there is nothing stopping it being registered as a UK company if that could expedite a legal case against the DCAEE.

If you had done your research before you "criticised" me by claiming "..when did you own declared $340 M claim become a $400 M claim" you would know that many figures have been bandied about regarding the possible financial claim Rockhopper are making against the Italian Government for compensation ranging from $340m to $400m.

Here are a few statements to support that, items you could have discovered yourself if you could have got out of bed and done some proper research rather than criticism.

Examples:

"Rockhopper is claiming up to US$350 million in damages".

"We’ve initiated arbitration proceedings to claim… at least all of the costs spent…
which is in the region of 40 to 50 million dollars, but ideally (also) the profits,
that we would have made had we been able to develop the field…

"Worth noting that the $350m talked about previously is now $400m in relation to OM."

None of these are my comments and there are many more where the possible payment varies between $340m and $400m.

Article in yesterday's Irish Independent asks the question: "Government reshuffle: Leo Varadkar will become Taoiseach but which ministers could lose their top table role?"

So, they will vote on whether Varadkar will become Taoiseach as it is clear it is not a done deal and will be voted on.

Given the parlous state of the Government with currently a majority of one that looks a very shaky proposition.

Will Ryan be offered a different role or will they get rid of him altogether to try and save the Government?

After all, recently the Government lost its majority so the voting for Varadkar in December could be a different story, especially as it seems the Independents are becoming a "block" in their own right and could easily bring the government down and certainly prevent Varadkar from becoming Taoiseach, if they voted in unison.

Fine Fail, Fine Gael and the Independents would have 36 + 33 + 24 = 93, a good majority whereas Fine Fail, Fine Gael and the Greens currently have 36 + 33 + 12 = 81, a majority of one.

A few blackouts or, as is being currently suggested, households losing power between 5pm and 7pm a few times and both Varadkar and Ryan are for the high jump.

Where did it say to be commercial they would have 3,500 bbls a day from 24 wells?

So please inform us of the "per well" information to be commercial at 3,500bbls a day which you claim was needed for Barryroe to be "commercial" as we missed that information somewhere.

Obviously you do not understand the word "commercial" and I would point out another oil field where it said it had a total of 10 "commercial" wells producing a total of 3,500bbls a day between them.

So, how is it that Providence, with a flow of 3,500 bbls in one hole is not "commercial"?

I guarantee that Ryan is convinced Barryroe holds a lot of oil and gas otherwise why would he not let Providence go ahead and develop it if he was convinced it was going to turn out to be a damp squib and he can be "justified" in his embargo?

The document "https://www.gov.ie/en/publication/3bcaf-policy-statement-on-petroleum-exploration-and-production-in-ireland/" specifically states that:

"While there have been some discoveries of oil in the Irish offshore, to date none of these have been declared commercial."

But Providence declared Barryroe "commercial" back in 2012.

I would like to point out that based on the following statement from 2012 that we have all been led astray by Providence when they declared the Barryroe find commercial. Note:

On the back of this Providence's share price went to £6 and O'Reilly stung the market for $100m.

This is old news and was announced on 30th June in the Irish Times as follows:

Beef magnate Larry Goodman has become the largest shareholder in Providence Resources, the Irish oil and gas explorer, after almost doubling his stake to 16.1 per cent in less than a week.

You can be sure Larry, like Menton et al. are waiting on the Rockhopper arbitration case.

Only another 12 days until the Rockhopper arbitration decision unless the board decide to extend by up to 60 days but I can't see any reason why they would need to. But who knows? At least we will have some indication by the 24th of August, the 120 day limit.

The board of arbitration have already decided that Rockhopper are due compensation but it now depends on "how much".

"Under the ICSID Arbitration Rules, the Tribunal has 120 days after closing to issue its Award, extendable by 60 days (Rule 46). The Company will update the market in due course."

The 120 days started on the 25th April and if Rockhopper gets any compensation over its $40m costs you just watch Barryroe fly as Ryan and his "two monkeys" on his organ grinder run for cover. Barryroe is already $200m under the Irish oil exploration rules so even that would be nice.

How does Ryan know that the gas we get from the UK is not "fracked" LNG?

There are 3 LNG terminals in the UK.

It says "A PR firm for Rockhopper declined to comment, citing the ongoing arbitration proceedings." We might get a decision on that one by the 24th of this month as its 120 days are up then.

But more relevant is the statement that:

"In Germany, officials agreed to pay €2.5 billion in compensation to Swedish energy giant Vattenfall and a number of other energy companies, with those companies, in turn, agreeing to drop their claims under the treaty. Uniper did not respond to requests for comment."

Now that is relevant as Germany realised it would lose so it jumped the gun and agreed to the compensation. Will Ryan put his back to the wall or will he and the government try and do a deal with Providence?

Hopefully not to long now before the "proverbial" hits the fan, I suspect.
