Shorts would not be forced to close, their short position would just mature into the new share / entity. Think about the reverse. Should you be forced to sell your long DXNS position because the shares are to restructure...? Shorts will close if the merger goes through and creates demonstrable efficiencies reflected in a higher SP than a given shorts' pain threshold.
