They need management at all stages when something that big is being set up. Again though this is just guess work with what we know.

Oh, and secure supply lines. That's another very important point, Japan needs very secure supply lines for their hydrogen plans, without them their plan can not be implemented.

A consortium of that size could also outbid any main mining company quite easily. It would still work out cheap for them in the long run as they would be vertically integrating the PGM and battery metal district into their JV consortium body. They would save an absolute fortune on the metal costs over the longer term. It's a similar reason as to why Tesla bought that lithium play, to vertically integrate for cost savings and efficiency.

All still guessing however, but it certainly makes an interesting new take on things.

A consortium involves several parties and they will have definitely been affected by travel restrictions, that Friday RNS could be one of the final pieces to this entire jigsaw.

Still very much guessing with it all, and no one truly knows exactly what will come next in this fantastic journey.

Certainly Dealer, i didn't even realise such huge consortium's had been set up over there for their 3rd hydrogen wave. Only dug around over the weekend to uncover such things. NN was the neighbour, so you think well it's an easy task for NN to acquire MT as a minimum. Anglo were the old JV partner, so that was an easy fit as well.

Japan with big consortium's in play over there was totally unexpected to be honest. But Eurasia Japan wasn't set up yesterday was it, there has been a lot of very secretive work going on in the background and it's to facilitate something.

Development of Hydrogen in Japan
Japan is one of the further advanced countries in relation to developing hydrogen projects and has the advantage of having a designated government policy supporting the uptake of hydrogen, coupled with a public acceptance of hydrogen projects in the domestic-energy mix.

"Japan is now in the third wave of hydrogen. The first wave was in the early 1990s, the second wave was in early 2000s, and the third wave started around 2015. The Japanese government is in on the entire thing -

"The number of fuel cell vehicles worldwide was 12,900 at the end of 2018, of which Japanese companies, led by Honda and Toyota, produced about a quarter. According to the Fuji Keizai study, by 2030 the use of vehicles with built-in fuel cells in Japan will increase to 636,900, in detail 621,000 cars, 1,300 buses and 14,600 forklifts. The roadmap of the Japanese government envisages a decline in the price premium for fuel cell vehicles compared with hybrid vehicles from JPY 3 million (approx. CHF 26’500) to JPY 0.7 million (approx. CHF 6’200) by 2025."

They want price reductions, imagine how much they would save by buying a PGM district, now that's a thought!

"Toyota Motor recently commissioned compact solar hydrogen generators ("SimpleFuel") at its Motomachi plant in anticipation of an increasing demand for fuel cell forklifts. Using such a generator, 7-8 FC forklifts per day can be refueled. The company plans to replace its current forklifts with hydrogen forklifts in order to reduce CO2 emissions at its production site.

Another project of the near future is a hydrogen train; JR East Japan announced that it would develop a rail vehicle powered by a hybrid system that combines fuel cells and lithium-ion batteries. First test runs are planned for 2021. JR East will spend approximately JPY 4 billion (CHF 35.3 million) on the development of the two-wagon train and plans to commercialize fuel cell trains by 2024. The train will have a maximum speed of 100 km/h and is expected to cover about 140 kilometers per hydrogen tank. The test runs are going to take place on several JR East lines in the greater Tokyo area."
