IMO if BARC goes down, you will have bigger things to worry about. You will be looking at the type of total systemic collapse that would make the Wall Street Crash look like a fairly minor blip in the road. If you have too much on the table here, or any other stock for that matter, consider reducing your position to something that you are more comfortable with, even if it means locking in some loss. Not advice of course. Nor something that I myself have always been disciplined enough to follow. But a sensible idea, nevertheless, IMO.

I do not think I will ever just buy and hold a bank stock, even though some elderly family members have done very well with just that policy. IMO they enjoyed a 40 year bull market, which is over :) There are very few sectors where I would consider this strategy in the stock market. Certainly very few individual stocks. I do not disagree with the gripes some of you have here, but I do not really see it changing either, not without major shareholder moves, or an activist investor or two. So, this is one that you either try and trade your way out of, with the potential risks that this entails, sell at a loss, or continue to hold...but try not to let it get to you. Easier said than done, I appreciate.

Yeah, I was thinking DB too. As well as at least four others that IMO are far more vulnerable than BARC. But I appreciate the frustrations of LTH's. I am in the same boat on a couple of stocks. A few others...I am one of the holders who will make a tidy profit if/when certain t/o's happen, because I am a recent holder, rather than a LTH. A couple of stocks I took profits...only to see the SP sail away and not return again. Ultimately, we all have to just try and make more than we lose and adopt a strategy that we think works best to this end. GLA.

Not a screaming buy right now at all, IMO, but certainly no FRC either. Not sure why Lloyds is doing a bit less badly, unless it is the pending ex div, as I mentioned in a previous post. I dislike the essentially pure UK exposure in that one personally, although I would be delighted (and a little surprised) if we bucked the trend, ahead of the dark global times that I see in the short to medium term at least.

Central Banks cannot cover all the costs without undertaking the biggest round of QE yet. Which will have consequences for inflation that in the West we have only read about happening in other places. None of which could be described as either prosperous or particularly safe places. As far as banks go, I feel relatively comfortable in BARC (but not sufficiently to have anything more than a tiny holding right now). I am watching JPM too, which I will likely take a nibble if/when that one hits 100 dollars. Then a slightly bigger amount if we see 50. That would only happen IMO if the wheels properly fall off. I do not rule it out personally, but it also shows that I think, over the longer term, it would come back. Certainly to a sufficient degree to make such purchases profitable at some point.
Some further banks though are toast in the next 6-12 months IMO. If this is merely a short term blip, then hopefully my BARC will see me in profit sooner. Hence not sitting it out completely. GLA.

I am waiting for 125p ish before nibbling a few more. IMO there is no need to rush to buy banks today. I also do not see them making a rapid ascent when things turn around (as sooner or later they probably will). But I could be wrong. I usually am :)

Some of those twitter posts pretty much sum up all logical opinions and conclusions, from a PI perspective. I really cannot see how this is a good deal for shareholders...inves2day is one that particularly strikes a chord to my way of thinking.

Oh, I am sure the government went in to bat for the taxpayer with all their might! :) Just joking of course - we have been told in no uncertain terms that this was without impact on the taxpayer. Would have been interesting if the interviewer had asked whether this meant just for now, or for ever. We all know how good with words politicians can be. Read the small print etc.
On an entirely unrelated topic, I wonder if any current politicians will end up with banking directorships in the years ahead? Probably not, nor any consultancy work for one or more of the banks, either. That could arouse some suspicion in the more untrusting minds of the populace. Not me though. I trust our dear Leaders :)

I sold the bulk of mine at a hefty loss some time ago, but I will be voting no with those I still have. To the poster asking if this chat board would close if the company de-lists: Yes.
I have my own thoughts on this deal. Not words that I could use without risk of censure, but I expect you can all join the dots. Just be prepared for likely failure and accept that this is AIM, where pretty much anything goes, without realistic chance of misdemeanors being righted. IMO, naturally.

Agree. I also have a few PM miners in Canada and the US. Needless to say, the premium on those stocks is relatively eye-watering. Relatively higher risk too IMO, because when they have productions issues, the higher P/E ratios become positively frothy. Ah well, such is the nature of investing in miners.

No doubt when they are ready to launch CBDC's, they will undertake a significant propaganda campaign that paints anyone who is against, or even mildly unsure of it, as 'far right' or criminals. After all, why would anyone who has nothing to hide have any need to fear such a thing? Chills me to the bone. Anyway, will be interesting to see how PM prices fare next week. Logic would suggest another uptick, but I would not be surprised to see some degree of retrace either. Relaxed either way, because I remain extremely bullish about the longer term direction of travel. Just keeping my fingers crossed that the politics of SA does not get in the way here. Quite literally the only thing that stops me making this one of my largest holdings, not that it is a particularly small percentage of my overall p/f right now either. GLA.

Agree. There are plenty of genuinely dodgy decisions/payments that get made/have been paid, but this does not seem to be one of them. Insofar as contractual legalities. Still does not look good and still need time to see if this takeover proves to be a good one for HSBC in the medium to long term. I simply do not know enough about the details of SVB UK operations (let alone the US business) to have an opinion in either direction. I do however think that two days would not have been long enough for HSBC to undertake the normal amount of dd before agreeing to this move. Hence consider it probable that they got given some informal assurances from the government. Whether or not one should trust anything from this government is another matter altogether! Still, it will give me an opportunity to josh some corporate M&A consultants I know about how long they typically take doing deals :)

Completely against the principles of a free market, although so are bail outs (which the CS loan to all intents and purposes was). I have no problem with short selling (apart from the illegal naked short selling practice). I am aware that the derivatives market is enormous and a potential threat in itself. Another good reason to avoid the practice of bail outs. If that market ever goes tits up, then I am not sure it could be bailed out anyway, simply due to the size of it. So be it. That it capitalism.

Yeah, I am going to have to add my voice to those who strongly disagree regarding your comment on Fred. IMO him and his ilk are the greatest threat to capitalism. That so few bankers across the world did not see the inside of a jail cell, or even at least suffer personal bankruptcy after the GFC (and no doubt the same lack of outcomes when the next one strikes) disgusts me. But it is what it is and let's be honest...apart from some big words from a few politicians and media people now and again, it is not going to change. Hey ho.

I think those are all fair points that you have made, Pokerchips. And I am not expecting any surprises when the results are formally presented. It does look like, if the sale goes ahead, a disappointing result for LTH's. I would love to know the averages of the big holders here. Presumably a sub 3 quid deal would not involve them taking a significant haircut, but also surely not much of a profit either?

Yes, I read that. While I do not doubt the honesty of the BOD here, I have learnt never to take anything for granted in advance of the hard facts as outlined in a formal results announcement.
