I was about to type the same thing. Strong and sustained buying so far. Will be interesting to see what happens when we reach the 74p area. Quite a lot of resistance around that level, IMO.

Will also be interesting to see how many shares get bought back each day, which we will get daily updates for until the cash allocation is concluded. GLA.

I think the GDP indicator itself is the problem. Perhaps if we replaced it with GDI, then we might be able to undo some of the mess of the past few decades, over time. Not so easy to cut corners, or juice the realities as it is with GDP, IMO.

I am not convinced that debt ratios as high as ours was back then - let alone now - is a trifling matter though.

Sure, as long as people keep buying the debt, then the game can continue. But as we see in other nations in greater distress than us, the premium gets bigger...the debt gets ever harder to service...sooner or later, it will come crashing down.

Or the IMF ends up owning everyone and everything, everywhere, and we will finally be happy... :)

Demographics is the big one. Same as the US, the worker to retiree ratios are getting somewhat perilous.

But the de facto open door immigration policies of both nations in the past few decades, to try and deal with this, have been a net cost, not a positive (indeed, arguably a disaster from not just an economic angle either).

It is a ponzi scheme.

The solution? None that would be a vote winner, because it would be primarily to the detriment of the largest voting block in the UK and US. So collapse it is then, sooner or later, but sadly in my lifetime I think.

Not good enough an update for me to eat my words on the CEO though. Feels like a value trap still, IMO, but with the dividend maintained and the buy backs hopefully providing a degree of a floor, I can live with it.

A buyer if we see low 50's, a holder unless we see mid 70's, in which case I am a trimmer. Will sell the lot at 80p though :) GLA.

I agree with those criticisms of Maggie and share both.

I presume she did not establish a wealth fund on ideological grounds. While I personally like the idea of such a thing, it seems likely that a future government would simply squander it, in the fashion of so much legacy generational family wealth. Perhaps if strict access limits had been placed on it, like the best trust funds?

Also do not understand why she let a benefit culture take root in those mining towns that she essentially closed down. That never made sense to me either.

But who has done better, or caused less damage, since her?

Yes, I am. Have a lot of respect for him, but I think he was too generous on LT/KK.

It was predicated on a certain level of growth to offset the additional debt. The debt pile was already too big. Productivity was, and still is, too low. It was not a risk-free play.

They should have announced cuts to public sector spending that would have matched the 'costs' of those suggested tax cuts.

Sometimes the solutions to problems really are quite simple and do not need convoluted strategies. The scourge created by the central planner, busy work, blob. Politicians and civil servants are basically indistinguishable today.

Maggie was the last Tory worth voting for. Certainly the last Tory who was a genuine, largely free market capitalist. Not perfect by any means, but leagues ahead of any who have followed her.

Those who have followed (including the current grifters) are as great a threat to capitalism as the failed socialists that MT saved the UK from back in the late 1970s.

Totally agree that tax and spend is a failed policy. But that is not going to change anytime soon.

And I think it is going to take something far more radical than the flawed LT/KK plan to even meet the pension liabilities of the next 20 years, let alone any of the other (far more important) areas with essential funding requirements.

One thing I think is for sure: the next few decades are unlikely to pass without incident. Especially in the West. GLA.

It held up better than I expected it to, although equally, this one often needs a few days to tell you what the market thinks.

Somewhat disappointing not to see some inside buying today; perhaps tomorrow.

Even then, I would be unlikely to change my target return price, but if the BOD are not buying at these prices, why should anyone else, is what I tend to think in these circumstances.

To be clear, I remain a fan of this outfit. I do not see anything that is cause for extreme concern in this update, but equally, I do see further pain ahead, hence my position at the time of print.

As another poster said earlier, it is the spot prices not keeping pace with the rate of inflation.

AISC will continue to be a challenging balancing act in the meantime. The uranium sector saw something similar, of course. Hopefully we will enjoy a similar break out as they did, before too much longer. At some point in 2024 anyway (fingers crossed).

I have taken profits (probably prematurely) elsewhere, in order to have some additional funds available, in case this one throws up a 'buy the dip' opportunity tomorrow.

Am hoping to be delighted and not have the chance to add lower than the current price. Equally hoping to have to eat my criticisms of the CEO, which I have been quite vocal about (although not as much as Tom has been!).

As a slight side note, the US version of Motley Fool has an article today on PARA (to avoid at all costs). This might make it a screaming buy now, lol.

Thanks mate. This one has been kind to me, so far. It was not company-specific, as such. And it could just as easily be a very premature decision on my part.

This one is either going back to the 350's, or on to the 380's tomorrow, IMO.

Gut feeling today led me to chicken out. Took some off the table and then sold the rest into the rise. Small profit, but well short of the planned exit point. Not for the first time here, but 'gut' feeling, by and large, has not let me down in this one (so far).

What this means, in all probability, is the SP here is going to absolutely rocket tomorrow.

But, if it does not and retraces once again, then I have renewed dry powder at the ready. GLA.

From a purely selfish perspective, I hope they do :) That is the real drag on proceedings here, IMO.

Yeah, this one is such a POS :) Thankfully I have plenty of other, far better miners than just this one, although foolishly, this is my biggest mining holding.

The terms of that loan was one of the 'red flags' that put this in the trade, rather than the investment basket, for me.

I thought that was off - but it is also in the past - and if the overall plan is working, then no reason for LTH's to not start getting some reward for their support, irrespective of this, and other mistakes made in the past. Nice rise today, but never take this one for granted! GLA.

Interesting market response. I thought we might see mid 70's before a return to flat on the day (give or take).

Never like to see paying to exit an arrangement, but I agree with the opinion that it shows strong and decisive leadership.

The US has been a graveyard for many a UK business and this decision would not have been taken lightly.

All that said, I am not chasing the price either, so will sit and hold for now, and either trim again around the quid mark, or add if we do see those mid 70's on no further news. GLA.

My opinion of the company remains unchanged, but I would want to see the SP back to the 130's to be laddering back in right now, personally.

They were within guidance, but I can see the subdued activity continuing throughout 2024, not just the early part. If this comes to pass, then that would IMO be a better price point.

Anyway, this one does not always react as you would expect it to. Not long to see what the market makes of it. GLA.

As do I. Never like to see high short interest, especially when it has been sustained like it has here, and seemingly unchanged, even after repeated inside buys that IMO are not really small pocket change sums (even for someone as wealthy as WB is).

My thesis is based on the bottom end of guidance being achieved.

Like others have said, it is not as if the forecast was greatly ambitious in the first place, so failure to achieve even these targets would feasibly require immediate changes at the top, IMO.

A small miss I think the SP could handle and the BOD survive. Especially with some hefty inside buying.

A stinker...and I will be hoping that AP and MA go toe to toe, and I can still exit with a respectable profit from these levels. Maybe then the shorts exit and the SP does not actually go that much lower than it is now, if even that.

The CEO cannot buy right now. If he fails to do so after the update, then that would be a different matter.

If they were happy buying in the 370's and higher (and very recently, at that), then this type of price is even more of a gift.

I had another medium-sized buy order that hit, so I now have a solid, round number of shares here.

An amount that may be tempting to sell, if we return to the high 380's on no news. Even the low 380's, in truth.

Given all the activity here, especially quite recently, I am not sure I will retain my discipline on this occasion.

But of no relevance unless we see that range of course, so not something that I need to give much thought to right now.

And if we get spectacularly bad news, which would then explain the SP action, then I will have nobody to blame but myself.

I really do not think it is that though, although as always, time will tell. Gulp! GLA.
