With regard to energy, Ministers agreed to:

Explore increased cooperation on offshore renewable energy and security of supply, including in relation to offshore grids, electricity interconnection, and development of hybrid/multipurpose projects combining offshore wind generation with interconnection.

Continue the policy dialogue between relevant Departments and agencies in the context of the forthcoming Memorandum of Understanding for cooperation on gas security of supply.

Jointly examine the scope for further cross-border cooperation and coordination in the area of low carbon hydrogen.

Progress made in relation to these two areas would be reviewed at future meetings of the BIIGC.

"FEL 4/19 contains the large, low risk, Inishkea gas prospect and is a strategic asset that can potentially provide a reliable source of low emission energy for Ireland and play a key role in the transition to renewable green power. Gas from the Corrib field, adjacent to the Inishkea prospect, is one of the lowest carbon-intensity gases in Europe, much lower than long distance pipeline gas from Norway, the UK or the Russian gas piped to Europe.

Given that Ireland will continue to require gas into the foreseeable future, having recently agreed plans to build new gas-powered electricity plants, it makes sense to keep this potentially valuable source of indigenous gas available."

Interesting to hear panel discussions, positive outlook and key requirement for storage particularly as seen by National Gas and the actions taken to develop capability / regime. Storengy (on the panel) would seem to be a good potential partner for IM project from their skillsets and business model ( see their website). However there are of course others - Shell, Centrica, SSE, Petronas, Jim Ratcliffe etc etc that you would expect us to be engaging with to maximise value for H&W shareholder.

Projects in Ireland will face a “huge constraint from a supply chain perspective," said Ryanne Burges, Director for Offshore and Ireland at EDF Renewables.

"They are coming pretty much at the back end of the mid-2020s, some of the busiest years for the industry,” Burges told Reuters Events.

Port investment is also required, since only the Port of Belfast in Northern Ireland has the necessary attributes to support the industry. Initially, developers may need to use foreign ports, which increases costs.
