This week I started a new role as Director of Strategic Bids with Harland & Wolff.

I have spent the previous five years with Atkins, developing and leading a bid function and working with some fantastic people in the aerospace and defence business and I know this capability will be developed even further by the fantastic team that I leave behind.

I now have the opportunity to bring my experience to Harland and Wolff and help grow the offshore and maritime engineering portfolio. The welcome I have received has been excellent and it is incredibly exciting to be involved in the journey and the trajectory the company is on - I am looking forward to what the next few weeks and months bring and to getting stuck in

LWHL take your points - my main concern is whatever choice is made Islandmagee is not given away for well below it's true value.

Expect the facility to operate under a regulatory regime where the regulator forms a view on an efficient cost of capital allowance that can be recovered from customers through a charging mechanism. ( My understanding is the regulator would have a duty to ensure the storage facility business model is sustainable ). The idea of a % holding sounds good to me rather than a straight sale.

If Labour value 2 years lost storage capacity to UK at £1.7 billion for just 2 years I would expect Islandmagee to have a much higher value than £100m considering the life of the asset and potential use.
